Because they push narratives. A Non pass rushing DT is not worth #7 pick. Poe, Lotulelei and Shelton have all had ups and downs, Poe and Lotulelei are both free agents if we felt like going that route.

Check out this link below from BucsNation. Quinton Nelson lays the Rock Bottom on an LSU LB! I think hes the safest pick in the draft.

I do this every year before free agency and they draft to illustrate where I think our biggest holes are. So here are my player value grades for starters and major contributors on our team, in their current roles

    QB- Winston: B+
    RB- Martin: C, Barber: C
    WR- Evans: A, Jackson: B-, Godwin: B+, Humphrey: B
    TE: Brate: A-, Howard: B+
    RT- Dotson: B+
    RG- Sweezy: D+
    C- Marpet: B+
    LG- Pamphille C-, E. Smith: C
    LT- D. Smith: B

    LDE: Gholston- C+
    NT- Baker: D+, McDonald: C+
    DT: McCoy: A
    RDE- Ayers: C-, Spence: Incomplete
    SLB: Beckwith: B
    MLB- Alexander: A-
    WLB- David: A
    CB- Grimes- A-
    CB- McClain: C, R. Smith: C-
    Nickel Back- Hargraves: C+
    FS- Evans: B
    SS- Ward: C, Conte: C+, Tandy: C

Clearly, RB, G, DE, and CB are the glaring needs, with SS and NT the secondary needs. I would consider the O-line a need in general because a Center would allow us to move Marpet back to guard and a Tackle would allow us to possibly move D. Smith inside and/or provide a future replacement for Dotson, even though he was probably our best lineman in 17

I'm not typically a big fan of Matt Miller, but he killed it on his post Super Bowl Mock

    1. M. Fitzpatrick CB/S
    2. D. Guice, RB
    3. F. Ragnow C
    4. T. Settle DT
    5. L. Wallace, CB
    6. J. Bates

I'd probably sub out Wallace for a Gut like JC Jackson or MJ Stewart. I'm not huge on Bates at S for us, but hes looked at as like a mid round pick, so 6th round is great value. Apparently, Matt forgot that we have a 7th round pick, but otherwise he did a great job with this mock.

He killed it except for the fact that he didn't include the most glaring need we have had for a decade (DE).

I hope with this mock he assumes we grab Ansah or Lawrence in FA...

It's alright, I don't think he killed it though.

I like Minkah but not sure if I'm taking him over Nelson, it's 50/50 for me. If Minkah is viewed as more of a CB that increases his value.

I like Guice and Round 2 that's a pretty good pick but Kerryon Johnson in the 3rd or Nick Chubb in the 4th would allow us to get a pass rusher. Key is available at our 2nd pick, that would have made more sense even though he's not a perfect fit.

Blanding, Watts and Edmunds all safeties that go in the 4th in this mock. I'd prefer them over his pick.

As noted, FA would be crucial with a draft like this.

Its so rare for a d-linemen to come out of the first round be super productive in their first year. We need pass rush, and we need it yesterday. I'm really hoping we make a push for someone in FA this year. And look towards other needs in the draft.

Fitzpatrick got 3 mil, Bridgewater doesn't deserve 10-12 mil. I want him but for half that.

Somebody is gonna pay Teddy to compete for a starting role and to be the QB of the future. He is more accomplished then Jimmy G and Glennon and look at what they are getting paid. Our only hope of sighning him to a backup deal is if teams are affraid of his injury. I don't think it's realistic, which is why I didn't include him in my mock

The Center from Baltimore Ryan Jensen really intrigues me, he's the only free agency Olinemen I would want to go get. If not then continue building the Oline through the draft.

@aecon I mean that's pretty much a dream offseason right there, maybe would prefer Star over Logan but Star I feel would definitely be more expensive. Interesting that you traded DJax...

Whats wrong with Norwell, Pugh and Kline? Did you mean he is the only Center you would want? I'm not real high on Jensen. I like Richburg better.

Jackson is a waste on our team. He's a one trick pony and Jameis can't take advantage of his one trick. I don't dislike DJax. He's just a waste on money here. I said it last offseason, Jameis needs tall receivers, otherwise he is going to throw the ball over their heads on comeback routes. Humphries is different because he only runs screens and short routes. C. Godwin is ready to play more.

Plus, in my mock, we are spending a lot of money. We need DJax 11 million this year

The Jackson trade was probably the thing I liked least about your mock. Got peanuts in return, leaves us with Wilson and Martino if somebody goes down which is rough. God win should play more. Godwin should play in the slot some, Jackson should play in the slot some.

Overall I thought your mock was fine, probably a little too optimistic if anything. Good job on both OL and DL but think RB, WR (as mentioned) and DB are precarious.

I don't think Jensen or Richburg are anything special tthough both are better than Sweezy and Pamphile. Seems pretty clear to me Solder and Norwell are the upper echelon in FA, I like Pugh as a G and would be fine with him.
