Yeah that's what it is. Except only 53 players make the roster, so no doubt that when the final roster is put out, both Fumagalli and Butt will have contracts in the top 51. Which would make them combined slightly more expensive than Heuerman.

It's going to be nice having 2 fluid athlete's with great hands and a great catch radius floating around catching passes at the tight end position, we've missed that for years now, it's also going to be great having a got damn quarterback who can get the job done. Case keenum has plenty weapons to play with here and I think hell have a awesome season even better than his last year performance. I can see keenam at 30-34 touchdowns and 8-10ints/ 3600 yards passing this year

Okay, that makes total sense. Seems like we will cut Heuerman. We will be saving money in the long run and he hasn't wowed thus far anyway.
It is the 4th year of his 4-year contract, so he is a free agent next year anyway, and by cutting him we get to sort of 'start over' with the beginning years of the rookie contracts for Butt and Fumagali.

I hope we cut Heurman. Idk how hes still on the team other then being a 3rd round pick. We cut the better receiving TE in Derby over him. Heurman is the worst blocking TE on the roster. Yet hes #1 going into camp.

Well John has to give him a shot before chopping him. And there's no greater shot thqn going in as number one getting most the reps, let's see if he surprises, however I think butt and fumagali are much more talented, fumagali will have to pick up the offense though quickly...... That's probably the advantage Jeff has over the rook.

He's had plenty of opportunities to impress and take the reigns the last two years though. He's battling for time against one of, if not the least talented TE groups in the league. It's frustrating when a guy like Austin Traylor, was more productive in only 3 games started than Heurman was the entire year. And Taylor was basically brought in to be a blocking specialist.

I'm not mad that Heurman is the #1 going into camp. He's the vet and Butt/Fumagalli should earn their spots. And I fully expect Butt will and Fumagalli if he's completely healthy. But if Elway is willing to move on from draft picks early like Doss or waiving Derby after trading a 5th rounder a year before, Heurman should've already been cut. And I fully admit I hated the pick when he was drafted and I can't stand Ohio State. But the guy is arguably the worst, least impactful top 3 picks Elway has had.

It's not like our system, whatever it was, was kind to TE involvement either. You can't honestly say we dedicated TE's in our offensive game plan week in and out....aside from them blocking that is.

Watch Virgil Green have a great year this year...not just because it's Rivers throwing to him (main reason though) but the chargers actually use their TE's.

Not saying that Huerman is going to light the world on fire or anything...I doubt he's going to beat the superior talent in J.Booty...and I'm liking Traylor's game by the week but it wouldn't be surprising to see him productive in an established role instead of just an in-line blocker (of which he apparently rated the best out of our TE's).

We took a gamble on Derby because he had a good outlook as a receiving "TE" threat...but lets be serious..he wasn't actually a TE. In a system like the Pats, he would thrive but he wasn't established. Bit injury prone too...ball handling issues. Good idea..didn't work out.

I can name at least two more top 3 round picks that were least impactful than him. Alas, this 1st on depth chart thing at this point is meaningless.

We're banking on J.Booty to be the guy, I like Traylor's sneaky ability, I feel Fumagili needs a year to get acclimated...whatever Huerman gives us is a bonus.
