    Mets sign Anthony Swarzak

    2/14MM

Good deal, he was probably the 6th or 7th guy I wanted behind Shaw, Minor, McGee, Smith, Nicasio or Neshek but still good deal nonetheless. At least Sandy wasn’t caught sleeping at the wheel again.

I'm excited about this! I'm also sad that I'm excited about this.

I think Tony Watson could be a left handed realistic acquisition.

Mediocre pitcher who, at age 32, has all of two good seasons under his belt, with last year possibly being a career year.

    I'm skeptical.

Of course, I was also very critical of the Bartolo Colon signing so you can take that from where it comes.

32 year old reliever finding success isn’t unheard of. I would be more concerned if he was 35+ but on a 2 year deal, I don’t see how you can go wrong.

You could go less wrong if you gave me the $14 million, at least from my perspective.

    Just sayin.

This guy appears to be a middle innings guy. We need a late guy - please bring Addison Reed back where he belongs.

Then the bullpen is ok. Would be nice to have another lefty besides Blevins. I think the Mets would like to see Blevins in the last 3 innings of the game and not used as a lefty specialist. Smoker is not a lefty specialist. Not even sure if Smoker is just one of those hard throwing guys who just can't put it together.

With Reed, the pen would look nice getting to Familia or Ramos as the closing duo (i.e., Swarzak, Robles, Blevins, hopefully Reed, then Familia and/or Ramos). Bring in an old tried and true loogy. The long man will be whichever starter is not in the top 5 or 6 - probably Wheeler or Gsellman as it looks now.

Also gives more time to see what we got late last year with all those young relievers at Las Vegas and Binghamton.

    Would like Reed back.

Calloway says the Mets won't have a designated closer and that he will use relievers based on the situation, not an assigned role inning by inning.

If he can duplicate what he did last year, its a very good move.

If he pitches in line with his career averages, things could get interesting.

Thank God the Mets made a move and showed they have a pulse.

So that appears to be our ceiling, money-wise.

    Pathetic.

I don't love or hate this deal. It could go either way.

    Tony Watson should be signed.

A bullpen of Familia, Ramos, Blevins, Swarzak, and Watson would be very solid.

No lights out RPs, but a bunch of very good to solid ones.
