We need pitching. Good starting pitching. This team is going nowhere if the starting 5 rotation does poorly. We need to invest in a capable SP like Yu Darvish who would be the perfect #3 Starter behind deGrom and Syndergaard. It really rounds everything else out nicely b/c Seth Lugo, Matt Harvey, Steven Matz, Zach Wheeler, Robert Gsellman, and Rafael Montero all pitch like #4/#5 starters. Anything better from that group is gravy, at least you have a dominant top 3 in Degrom, Syndergaard, Darvish. You can replace Darvish with Jake Arrieta (who would be just as good of a fit for us).

Because of our Owners, I doubt we get the rotation help we truly need. Since the #3 spot in the rotation is this teams need. I see Sandy pursuing a #3 type starter. CC Sabathia is a name that immediately comes to my mind because he used to be an Ace and last year had a terrific bounce back season where it was noted that he learned how to pitch to a lineup, not just throw and over power them. Another name is former Met, Jason Vargas. Notice I'm aiming for lefties b/c that's what the Mets need most. Maybe Jaime Garcia? Right handers like Alex Cobb, Lance Lynn, Michael Pineda and John Lackey would also make for fine signings. I love the idea of CC Sabathia working with Mickey Callaway and Dave Eiland. On a 1 year deal, it can't hurt.

I still agree with yfern though, Smith can be used to get somebody in the infield or an elite reliever under team control. Smith for Donaldson anyone?
Smith for one year of Donaldson? No.

Shell out the cash for Darvish or Arrieta, Cain, and Brian Shaw. That'd be a successful off season and if that's all the moves we made, we'd be much better off than we were at the start of last season and we literally added a total of zero players to the 25 man roster.

We should be able to do this, but won't even come close unfortunately.

I would expect a bigger package centered around them two.

Donaldson would be a fantastic acquisition but I'm not sure how the Jays feel about moving him just yet.

I would not trade Dominic Smith for Josh Donaldson. No way!

If it was contingent on signing an extension, sure.

An unconventional approach that should be considered is to sign Eric Hosmer and package Dom Smith for something of value in a trade. Say a Josh Donaldson.

    LF: Cespedes
    1B: Hosmer
    RF: Conforto
    3B: Donaldson

    Very solid

Hosmer is going to command a lot more money than he's worth, he'll also likely get a 7 year deal. No thanks.

He reminds me a lot like Keith Hernandez.
IDK where you got 7 years from though.

Mets interested in making a move for Otani.

I'm shocked but that would be amazing.
