    here was the quote

Interestingly, the feeling within the new Braves front office (now led by new GM Alex Anthopoulos) is that “Maitan was [not] worth the money or the hype,” so losing him wouldn’t be a major setback for the farm system. Maitan signed for a $4.25MM bonus at the opening of the 2016-17 July 2 international signing period, and he hit .241/.290/.340 in his first pro season, receiving 176 PA in rookie ball. Despite those unimpressive numbers, Maitan came into the season as a consensus top-100 prospect in baseball and is still just 17 years old — even if the new Braves decision-makers weren’t keen on Maitan, they’d still be losing a significant trade chip if the league did indeed void his contract with the team.
it says front office but either way if the front office which is led by AA, would they bring him back?

    RIP Gene Wilder

It's not just our FO saying those things on Maitan either, Baseball America was also reporting he didn't impress alot of pro scouts once they got to see him in action.

But as Maitan hits the market again, he's going to be a tough player for teams to evaluate because his pro reports vary pretty distinctly from his glowing amateur reports.

Keith Law in his chat the other day said Maitan isn't considered a top 100 prospect anymore, there are scouts that said he doesn't even look like a prospect right now.

Given the money we already invested in him, there's no doubt that if he wants to come back the FO will take him with open arms.

DOB was asked if there's any chance Maitan re-signs and he said no.

The chances of anyone of them tis signing is incredibly slim. Why would someone resign with them after the team already got in trouble for signing them in ththe first place, not to mention the extra pay day they'd be missing and some of these players won't get a chance for another big pay day.

The fact that they got in trouble for signing them is irrelevant. Those kids wouldn't pass up good money.

So ATL dumped Johnson and INT FA $$ on the Angels so they could sign Maitan, essentially.

I think DOB or Bowman said because of Maitan's situation (having been stripped from the braves) the Angels could have dipped in from next year's international pool money to sign Maitain. which means the money we sent to them to dump Johnson could still be in play this year for Ohtani.

Yea teams can use next years pool to sign guys, its why we won't be signing any of them back. If any are left when we get a chance to sign them, we can't give them a signing bonus and can't go over 300K.
