Speculation on who will make the team
    Source
The Chicago Blackhawks are getting ready to start training camp this week, and there are going to be plenty of questions surrounding the team as they put together their roster.
In order to tackle those questions, we’re taking a look at the team’s options at each spot on their roster, and we’re starting with the forwards.
Roster Locks:Artem Anisimov, Ryan Hartman, Tomas Jurco, Patrick Kane, Richard Panik, Brandon Saad, Nick Schmaltz, Patrick Sharp, Jonathan Toews
There are nine players on this list, and while most of the included players would fall under the “duh” category, there may be a few names that are surprising to see.
With Jurco, it seems as though the Blackhawks will give him every opportunity to make the roster, as the team took pains to protect him in this year’s expansion draft and gave up a third round pick to the Detroit Red Wings to get him last season.
The other lock is Hartman, who had some discipline issues toward the end of last season. Even with a lot of guys in training camp that could potentially compete with him for playing time, he’s going to be a second, or more likely third, line winger for the Blackhawks this season, as he mixes scoring and grit better than virtually anyone on the roster.
Strong Contenders:Lance Bouma, Laurent Dauphin, John Hayden, Vincent Hinostroza, Tanner Kero, Jordin Tootoo, Tommy Wingels
It would take a pretty bad camp by any of these players to miss out on the roster, but especially in the case of Bouma and Wingels, the fact remains that their skillsets are nice additions rather than pressing needs.
The players on this list to keep an eye on are Dauphin and Hayden. Dauphin showed some great offensive upside with the Arizona Coyotes last season, and Hayden mixed physicality and scoring touch well during his first run with the Blackhawks, so both players could be intriguing to watch as training camp begins.
Dark Horses: Kyle Baun, Alex DeBrincat, Alexandre Fortin, Drew Miller, John Mitchell
Out of anybody on this list, DeBrincat has the best chance of cracking the Blackhawks’ roster, as the team simply cannot ignore the fact that he is dynamic with the puck and could be one of the best scorers in the team’s system.
Outside of him, keep an eye on Baun, who could play a bottom six defensive role, and John Mitchell, who could conceivably provide the grit and tenacity that Wingels and Bouma have been brought in to provide.
    The Final Tally:
After the Blackhawks put Marian Hossa (who is on the team’s training camp roster) on Long Term Injured Reserve, the Blackhawks will likely keep 13 forwards, so we’ll go with the nine locks, Tootoo, Dapuhin, Bouma, and DeBrincat as the remaining players on our predicted roster.

    2017 Chicago Blackhawks Training Camp

Blams I feel bad for ya man. Doesn't it get old being the only one ever talking in this forum. I love the hawks and I'm a season ticket holder. But there's so few of us that good conversation is so hard to come by.

The defense really worries me. There is a lot of uncertainty after Keith. The 3rd pairing will likely be what it has been the last several years, total crap. Seabrook needs a bounce back year to quiet the decline conversation. Murphy is a total unknown. I have hope for him, but I don't think any fan can really peg what we will get out of him this year.

If not for the luxury of being able to roll a four man defense in 2015, we'd have five banners hanging from the rafters and not six. The defense has really become a liability.

Yes it has. I think Seabs is definitely going to continue to decline- and Keith's decline likely isn't far off at all considering his game depends on speed.

I don't worry so much about Keith. He's a genetic freak. Lidstrom was a perennial Norris candidate until his retirement at age 41. I see a similar career from Keith. I believe he's still a top 10 defenseman in his late 30s. He does need some help around him, though.

I hope so, man. It's just so hard when you play as many minutes as DK has for as long as he has.

Lidstrom and Keith is actually a really interesting comparison when you have the time. Keith is averaging less time on ice than Lidstrom did at the same age. Less over his career as well. Keith has never had a major injury. He's always been great positionally. I don't worry too much about him aging poorly. He's a Blackhawk until age 39. He should remain a top 10 defenseman for most, if not all, of that contract.

I'll be at the training camp festival tomorrow. I'll give updates tomorrow night or Sunday on who stood out to me. I'm really excited to see how Schmaltz, DeBrincat, Forsling, Kempny, Murphy, Kampf, Forsberg, Fortin, and Knott look in particular. If we're gonna be better than last year, we need guys like Murphy, Kempny, and Schmaltz to take that next step.
