Trump has decided to end DACA, with 6-month delay

President Donald Trump has decided to end the Obama-era program that grants work permits to undocumented immigrants who arrived in the country as children, according to two sources familiar with his thinking. Senior White House aides huddled Sunday afternoon to discuss the rollout of a decision likely to ignite a political firestorm — and fulfill one of the president’s core campaign promises.

Trump has wrestled for months with whether to do away with the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, known as DACA. He has faced strong warnings from members of his own party not to scrap the program and struggled with his own misgivings about targeting minors for deportation.

Obama passed this bill in 2012 using executive order

It adds 500k - 750k more illegal workers to the labor force, if you think 2008 was the last of this countries recession then your living in fantasy land.

A needlessly cruel thing that only impacts innocent children and younger adults.

Not sure why he's doubling down on these unpopular moves.

DACA (I'd love for a reporter to ask him what it stands for):

Average DACA recipient is 26 and got here when they were 6.
    90%+ are employed
    0% have a criminal record
They must pay $500 every couple of years...which adds up collectively
Research has shown their huge contributions to our GDP

All of the tired and usually soulless conservative talking points fail here. Every argument they've made against illegal immigration fails here. This is only really justified from a right-wing ethnonationalism.

Excited to hear the rhetoric from the right wingers here. More or less nonsensical than the travel ban rhetoric?

The study’s author, Tom Wong at the University of California, San Diego, admits that his study data is unreliable.

The majority of Americans want our immigration laws be used to ensure that Americans workers are not disadvantaged by the corporate hiring of cheap illegal migrants.

    That's not a Trump view, a Republican/Democrat/Independent view, That's an American view.

In a Democratic Country, we should set our differences aside & assure this happens.

Why link to breitbart... when you could link to where he said it IN THE ****ING STUDY ITSELF. Even breitbart (with their lack of journalistic integrity) bother to link to the study. Did you click on the link... well if not here:

Here I underlined the one sentence breibart quoted,.

The questionnaire was administered to an online panel of DACA recipients recruited by the partner
organizations. Several steps were taken to account for the known sources of bias that result from such
online panels. To prevent ballot stuffing—one person submitting multiple responses—the authors did not
offer an incentive to respondents for taking the questionnaire and used a state-of-the-art online survey
platform that does not allow one IP address to submit multiple responses. To prevent spoiled ballots—
meaning people responding who are not undocumented—the authors used a unique validation test for
undocumented status. Multiple questions were asked about each respondent’s migratory history. These
questions were asked at different parts of the questionnaire. When repeated, the questions were posed using
different wording. If there was agreement in the answers such that there was consistency regarding the
respondent’s migratory history, the respondent was kept in the resulting pool of respondents. If not, the
respondent was excluded. In order to recruit respondents outside of the networks of the partner
organizations, Facebook ads were also used. Because there is no phone book of undocumented immigrants,
and given the nature of online opt-in surveys, it is not possible to construct a valid margin of error.
I love it when the popular media (or a **** rag like breitbart) gets ahold of a scientist being honest and saying science has error. (in fact it's in our statistical models... we call it error variance) and act like it invalidates science. In fact IT IS A REQUIRED PART of writing a scientific paper, to talk about the error that is in your study... because it is in your study.

The populace is left with two choices. 1... accept science and data knowing it contains measurement error OR 2. Go with some ******** you just made up. Rationality dictates one over the other. But humans aren't very rational.

It's a misleading study, it's Fake News, if I didn't link from Briebart you'd be asking for a source of the other information posted in the link

    Kevin, you're a weird "progressive".

I'll look into that study...but common-sensically it can't be too far off. The net impact from DACA is not a negative...or even close.

But you kinda exemplify what's wrong with the centrists in this country and why they keep shooting themselves in the feet. It's all phony compassion. Hillary embodied that. Tried to take it for granted. It's time we get better.

DACA is extremely popular here...so popular that many people on the right are comfortable vocally supporting it. Why? Because it protects innocent people and seeks to not ruin their lives and throw it all into turmoil because their parents did something when they were 6. These are innocent people who are contributing to society to better their lives. They should not be punished for their parents' decisions...especially if they're paying to be here (both taxes and a fee) and aren't criminals. Getting rid of this is evil and if you support it you aren't a true progressive. This is a Tea Party dream.
