Preseason Week 2; Baltimore Ravens @ Miami Dolphins

    1. Mike Hull. Look, Hull is a valuable part of the team. Hull and Michael Thomas had 18 special-teams tackles for the Dolphins last year, tied for second in the league behind New England’s Nate Ebner (19), according to Football Outsiders. No one else had more than 15. The question is whether Hull is a valuable Larry Izzo-type, a special-teamer par excellence, or a starting middle linebacker. There are doubts about this inside the organization. Tonight will provide another look toward a conclusion. The working idea is they’re going to find a veteran run-stopping middle linebacker to replace the injured Raekwon McMillan. They brought in a couple for a workout this week (Rey Maualuga, Kelvin Sheppard). If neither is signed, the cut-down date on Sept. 2 will bring another look. The other option is to move Lawrence Timmons or Kiko Alonso inside and play Neville Hewitt in the base. Tonight is Hull’s chance to answer some questions about him as a middle linebacker in the base defense.

    2. The offensive line. Yes, the whole bunch. First of all, who protects Jay Cutler? Center Mike Pouncey almost certainly won’t. Right tackle Ja’Wuan has been nursing a shoulder issue. Center/guard Kraig Urbik has a back problem. How to balance getting in work and helping Cutler with this being a preseason game? Beyond that, the fill-ins look like they’ll be counted on this year. Anthony Steen. Jake Brendel. Issac Asiata. Sam Young. Eric Smith. You can go down the list. They’ll all be watched tonight.

    3. Davon Godchaux. He’s been the top surprise in training camp. He had a solid preseason game. Now comes the biggest test any defensive tackle can have: Marshal Yanda. The Ravens right guard is the best in the business and is expected to play tonight. Can the fifth-round rookie defensive tackle hold his own against Yanda? Can Jordan Phillips start to change the underachiever label around him?

    4. Alterraun Verner. The cornerback position’s depth took a significant hit this week with the loss of Tony Lippett (Achilles). Lippett was a reserve, but played 75 percent of the time last year and started due to Xavien Howard’s injuries a lot of that time. Who fills in? You can’t have enough cornerbacks. Verner looks like he’ll get the first shot at replacing McCain and has impressed so far in what he can do. With Joe Flacco not playing for Baltimore, the Dolphins cornerbacks won’t be going against top-flight talent. Ryan Mallett is expected to start.

    5. Damore’ea Stringfellow. Throw in Storm Johnson and any other fringe newcomer who’s turned your head this summer. They’ve got to keep it going so that a few weeks down the line it becomes a tougher decision for the Dolphins decision-makers. Can Stringfellow make another big play with the lights on? Can Johnson take advantage of some injuries at running back?

Cutler is starting, seems Moore was slated to do so but they changed it up like just a few mins ago.

No other noticeable changes other than Branch not playing and Harris starting.

Andre Branch and Leonte Carroo are the only surprising inactives (kinda). Harris is starting in place of Branch today. Ajayi is also playing as well.

Steen at LG, McDonald in for Nate Allen, Brendel is in for Pouncey (Although Pouncey is dressed but not expected to play), and Sam Young in at RT.

Carroo was banged up all week with a hamstring or a shoulder, forget which so I understand him not playing.

They have said the Branch thing is nothing big either.

Even though it's the preseason, I hope we destroy the Ravens. They're just one of those teams I just hate because they always stomp us.

That screen to Landry was awful purely because of Landry. He fixed that a lot last year so hopefully it doesn't come back up.

Cutler follows it up with a great throw to Parker that was called back due to holding.

Jay looks good. Just bench him now and give him the Pouncey treatment.

Goxcheax is getting double teamed on nearly every play. Not really impressing but he's not getting blown back like Phillips has.

Offensive Line isn't playing that great. I really don't like Brendel at C.

Maxwell has caused 2 Fumbles tonight. I know everyone's already cutting him next year but for me it'll take a lot from Howard to make me feel comfortable with moving on from Maxwell.

Cutler looked pretty solid, sure does have that fast ball. He has lost zero zip.

The field looks like garbage. They really need to figure out a better plan if they're going to have so many events here.
