Nelson is a top 5 talent. Heís also an top 5 safest pick. No other prospect are both. We get Cousins, thatís probably my pick. And if we take defense, Iím going to be furious.

Aren't you a Notre Dame fan? Or am I thinking of someone else?

He is the safest pick though. I wouldn't be devastated if that was our pick (if we do get Cousins of course)..

but there will always be this lingering thought...."man, we just used a top 5 pick on a guard.....not an OT...but a guard"

Of course, it shouldn't matter if he does, indeed, become a yearly all-pro....but on a squad that has numerous needs...and talent that could be there (if Chubb and Barkely are both gone..then whatevs)...it's just something to think about.

This is Von's team. He's the poster boy for the Broncos. Even if we get Cousins...it's still "Von's" team. You got to help the guy out. That's a future HOF that needs a robin. Von can't win games by himself. That was proven last year. But he can damn well change it if he had some help.

Chubb and Von would be legit. Even better....Chubb can play with his hand in the dirt...so unlike our other edge rushers...you can move him anywhere and it won't matter.

It's an enticing proposition mud. Chubb is also a killer on those stunts/twists....so he can bring an interior rush. Salivating really..

If we get cousins this is what I would love to do if the board feel this way

    1- Browns- QB ROsen Darnold
    2- Giants- Rosen, darnold
    3- Colts- Chubb
    4- Barkley
5- US- trade down to a team that needs a QB but stay in the top 10 and grab Nelson and prolly be able to nab a 1st next year

    Now if this happens

    1- Barkley or QB
    2- Rosen/ darnold
3- colts trade back to a team that needs a qb like the jets darnold/baker
4- Browns take barkley here or a QB
5- have to think about taking Chubb here

prolly a little confusing but that's what im thinking

    1. One of the top QB's. I like them all, and honestly I'm growing on Allen. I think I might even take Allen over Darnold at this point. Rosen and Mayfield are still my top 2.

    2. Chubb. If we get Cousins, then we need to get Von some help. This guy is devastating and we're going to have a lot of youth in our secondary next year. The young secondary's best friend is a great pass rush, and this guy would give us a great pass rush. He can put his hand in the ground, but he started his college career at linebacker so he might also be able to be a stand up edge. You want to bump our defense back into the elite category, then this is the best way to do it.

    3. Barkley. The guy is a beast. We need playmakers on offense, and this guy will give us a lot of much needed explosiveness.

That's really all I want out of this pick. I don't want to move down unless it's only a couple spots and one of these guys are still available. I don't want to draft a guard in the top ten much less top five. A pick this high needs to be for a player who is going to have a bigger impact than an interior offensive lineman.

Don't do what the Browns do every year. Don't keep trading down just to get value when you need difference makers, and there aren't a lot of difference makers in any draft.
    Counterpoint:

This is a deeper draft than it is a upper echelon talent draft. Outside of QB, no positions of value have true elite top 10 talents. No true top 5 OT, Corner, Edge, DT, WR. There are top 5 QBs, but if you get Cousins you aren't going that way... so imo, depending on value, a trade down would be interesting.

Furthermore, if you have two bloated contracts like Von and Kirk, how do you compensate for that? Having a number of young cost controlled starters... so stacking top 100 picks is the way to do that. Say you trade down from 5 to 13 and a 2nd and 2019 pick(s) w/ washington who wants a qb I have been told (even w/ Smith) and then 13 to 20 and 21 w/ Buffalo...

Set yourself up w/ a draft like:
    1i. Taven Bryan DL Florida
1ii. Orlando Brown Jr OT Oklahoma
    2i. Will Hernandez OG UTEP
2ii. Leighton Vander Esch ILB Boise State
    3. QB (pick your choice... not ready to plant my flag here... Mike White/Kyle Lueletta/Kurt Benkert/Mason Rudolph top choices for me for now)
3c. Kyzir White SS/DB/NB/LB West Virginia

Then you a number of guys who will be cheap for 4 years that can fill starting roles to help compensate for having two top heavy contracts against the salary cap

    Just so you guys know...

If the Broncos took Nelson at 5 they would ABSOLUTELY try him at tackle... many teams are curious about doing the same thing... 6'5" 330 w/ long arms. IF he tests well they may well try him at T...

ND played him at G because he could maul and set up the run better and they had McGlinchey, who is MUCH better at T than G, and Ronnie Stanley at OT.

In the NFL, don't be surprised if someone tries Nelson at OT... I have been told that by multiple people in the league

    Food for thought.

Also I think Chubb is a TINY bit overrated. He is good but he isn't a super sooped up athlete at edge. Not close to a Von/Clowney/Garrett type... pry more everson griffen. Still good but top 5 is a touch rich for my blood. He's a tier under Bosa (Both of them). And is going to get pushed up because A) Edge is the 2nd most valuable position in football and B) this edge class is GARBAGE.

I'm not interested in that at all. Especially not with this coaching staff. They'll keep him there way too long and stunt his development of it doesn't work out. Hell it took them until week 17 to put Walker back where he's supposed to be.

I think Cousins may officially be out of the Broncos price range based off of Jimmy G's new deal. 27.5/yr average. 90 in the 1st three years and 75M guarantee over 5 years. Cousins contract would be slightly north of this.

The Broncos need too draft Chubb or James. Roll with Paxton lynch for this year. Draft Lamar Jackson in round 2.

And if Jimmy G got 30 millin per year in the first 3 years then cousin's deal will definitely be the same and if the Broncos are foolish enough too spend 30 per on an above average quarterback then we are going too be stuck in mediocrity for a while unless everything around him is perfect and clicking on all cylinders which isn't likely going too be the case.

I'd rather roll with Paxton who looked decent in week 17, him having an entire off season as the guy, getting all the reps from otas forward would pay huge dividends. If he stinks it up then were likely picking top 3 next year and THEN draft the next young quarterback.
