Report: Sabres and Jack Eichel working on 8 year extension

    http://buffalonews.com/2017/08/03/re...ght-year-deal/

If a report that surfaced Wednesday is accurate, Jack Eichel could be a member of the Buffalo Sabres well into the 2020s.

According to the Associated Press, the Sabres and the team's No. 1 draft pick in 2015 are closing in on an eight-year contract for the Massachusetts native. That's the maximum length allowed for an NHL contract.

According to the report, formal talks between the Sabres and Eichel's agent, Peter Fish, began approximately a month ago.

Connor McDavid, picked as the No. 1 overall pick in the same 2015 draft where Eichel was the No. 2 overall pick, signed an eight-year, $100 million contract with the Edmonton Oilers in early July that will begin with the 2018-19 season.

Sabres owner Terry Pegula touched on the Eichel topic briefly at Buffalo Bills training camp at St. John Fisher College Wednesday, telling the assembled reporters "I don't want to discuss any negotiations with Jack publicly. But, I can tell you this: We want Jack and Jack wants to be in Buffalo. That's all I can say about that."

Come on Buffalo, get this deal done!!

The only thing I would be afraid of is Buffalo gives him a McDavid type deal just because he has been good and was drafted one spot after him...Buffalo is that crazy

    Exactly.
Eichel is an excellent player who deserves to be paid, but he is no McDavid.

He's not even a Draisaitl. The money shouldn't be close to McDavid

Eichel to me has always seemed like a twat but he's good. Really good. I think he finishes second in points next season. He deserves to be highly paid. I don't like getting rid of bridges though. 3 years at 8.5M AAV to me seems fair.

He's a kid who just wants to win and has a great head on his shoulders. He'll be coming in between 9.5M and 9.75M per season over an eight year term.
