Abreu will have huge trade value this winter! A 5 WAR .300/30/100 bat with two years of control before free agency. That could honestly net us another 2 top 100 prospects. Why we trade Abreu now? Because he becomes a free agent around the time we are ready to start competing, plus resigning him than he will be going into his age 33 season which is right around the time most players start to regress. This is a young team going forward, I dont see a place for a Abreu in the 19,20 seasons and beyond. May as well try and get more prospects age 22 and younger that will be ready for the 2020's when we are set to compete for many years to come!

FUNNY HOW WE HOPE TO TRADE FOR TALENT AND HOPE THAT THEY BECOME ALL STARS
    LIKE SALE QUINTANA, EATON,CABRERA,ROBERTSON,FRAZIER,

and now we talk of trading Abreu before we have to pay him..He could be our DH for 4 or 5 yrs after the 2020 season..say till age 37 or so..plus he is a leader..Just ask Moncada who already has complimented Abreu for his help...as did Avi..

I think trading Abreu would be a mistake. A young team needs a leader, especially this one ... he is perfect for the job.

We have a lot of Latino players on this team.....having Abreu and Renteria are both big help.

plus...guys that hit .300 , hit 30 Hr's, and 100 RBI .........don't exactly grow on trees.....natural hitters in this league play well into their 30's with success.

I say keep him unless we get blown away. I am would be OK with a future of:

    C-Collins
    1b: Sheets
    2b. Moncada
    SS. Anderson
    3b. Burger
    DH: Abreu
    OF: Avi, Jimenez, Robert

That still leaves us with Rutherford, Basabe, Adolfo, Cordell, Gillaspie, Davidson, Delmonico (the last 4 getting playing time in 18 to see what we have).

We need to add some infield options through the next few drafts.

    Pitching looks great.

Muttman: Still concerned about Av Garcia ?
I think the Sox should keep Avi and Abreu and try to improve next season instead of tanking.

As long as improving doesn't mean trading away young developing talent for middle aged home run or bust hitting base cloggers. Aka the Kenny Williams way.
