As far as one hit wonders, Avi's year is not like the PED fueled performance spikes we have seen from some hitters in the past who blow up physically to smash the ball. (Sammy Sosa, Mark McGuire). His improvement is because he has lost weight, gotten a little quicker and refined his approach at the plate. It has been incredible to watch him do this. 5 for 5 today.

I really wish Engel could hit. An OF of Delmonico, Engel, and Avi would be decent for next year.

My guess is , Engle will get another long look in ST next year. We will also see if Tilson can come back and Ryan Cordell will get a look. A young cheap FA might also fall to us....L.Garcia actually was passable this year.

Engel? He is hitting .182 with a .250 OBP in 268 AB. He will be 26 yrs. old later this year. Yes, Engel has made some great catches but that just isn't enough to remain on a major league roster. And he doesn't have a good arm so that diminishes his value on defense.
I don't think he makes the 25 man roster out of Spring Training next season.

Engel and Tilson will compete with May and whomever they might bring in over the winter.
Get used to him until Robert is ready.

    HERE'S A FEW THOUGHTS..Zack Collins | Rank: 5
Team: Birmingham Barons (AA) ETA: 2018 Position: C Age: 22
Collins has the bat to profile at first base, which is helpful because scouts aren't sold that he'll be able to stay behind the plate.
WITH THAT IN MIND WE NEED TO SECURE A FUTURE CATCHER....SHOULD WE DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS?
    TRADE FOR
    Carson Kelly | Rank: 2 : Top 100 Prospects (#32),
Team: St. Louis Cardinals ETA: 2017 Position: C Age: 23 /ready to take over in St. Louis after Molina's contract was set to expire following the 2017 season, but the veteran's extension through 2020 clouds Kelly's future with the Cardinals.
WOULD THIS PACKAGE MAKE THE CARDS HAPPY
    Dylan Cease | Rank: 5 Top 100 Prospects (#59)
ETA: 2019 Position: RHP Age: 21
    Jameson Fisher | Rank: 24
Team: Winston-Salem Dash (A Adv) ETA: 2019 Position: OF Age: 23
I KNOW WE SELDOM SEE TRADES OF MINOR LEAGUERS FOR MINOR LEAGUERS, BUT THIS MAKES SENSE FOR BOTH TEAMS..

I'm still hopeful Collins can stay behind the plate. He's done much better framing pitches and throwing out runners this season.

I have high hopes with Selby Zavala and am not really willing to part with Dylan Cease just yet.....although if you throw in Harrison Bader....we could talk...
