Martinez had a bizarre outing last Saturday in which he struck out 11 while walking eight. He had particular trouble commanding the sinker. He threw 118 pitches in the outing, so he may be limited in how deep he can go in this one.

The good news for Davies is that he's been here before. His ERA after three starts is 8.79, nearly identical to his 8.78 after three starts in 2016 before the righty turned a corner. Davies went 11-4 with a 3.54 ERA in 25 starts the rest of the way.

It's been a rough start for Adam Wainwright, who has logged just 13 2/3 innings over three starts. He's averaging 20 pitches per inning and has allowed 10 of 15 leadoff hitters to reach. He's allowed 21 hits over his last two starts (8 2/3 innings).

Peralta is coming off consecutive quality starts and has yet to surrender more than three earned runs in an outing. It's a continuation of his strong finish to 2016, when he posted a 2.92 ERA over his final 10 starts.

Lynn threw seven scoreless innings to stop the team’s three-game losing streak in his last start. He continues to be a fastball-first pitcher, but he leaned more heavily on his cutter last time out than usual.

Anderson is one Brewers pitcher who has had some success against St. Louis. In five starts, he owns a 2.42 ERA spanning 26 innings. Anderson surrendered one run in his first 13 innings this year before a five-inning, three-run start against the Cubs.

    1........BB's........3
    2........ER........9
    0.84........WHIP........1.15

Leake had a 14 1/3-inning scoreless streak snapped last time out, but he continues to pitch brilliantly. With an expanded repertoire of pitches, Leake has allowed just two runs in 21 1/3 innings this season.

Is this the year Nelson solves St. Louis? He is 0-7 with a 7.34 ERA in nine games, eight starts against the Brewers’ division rival. Cardinals batters have hit Nelson at a .316 clip.
