Jim Bowden tweeted according to a Japanese source that the Mariners and Padres are the early favorites.

Not shocked. Iíve been pinning both teams as the top two to land him.

Not surprising, both of those GMs have a knack for getting what they want.

Cub fan bias here, but Ohtani would do well to overlook the west coast issue and consider signing with Chicago. When Baez starts at Second they have the best infield defense in baseball. They're ready to contend for at least the next few seasons. And they have a Manager who has the reputation of not only being careful with pitch counts but being very open minded towards the usage of talent (specifically Travis Wood).

And considering Ohtani grew up in a section of Japan with regular bad weather the elements in Chicago aren't as big of a detriment as some might consider in his decision making process.

Mariners just picked up bonus $1m from the Twins in a deal. They must feel good about their meeting.

Youíre looking at this very one dimmensionally.

San Diego: beautiful city, more leiway for him to be a pitcher/hitter and not worry about the eyes of the world being on him if he fails. He has a lot more room to practice in case he doesnít excel right away.

Seattle: Owned partially by Nintendo, have always been active in the IFA market, can follow in Ichiroís footsteps, also a beautiful city.

Preller traded for Kimbrel and Upton, DiPoto signed Pujols, Hamilton, CJ, etc. The moves might be short sighted but these two GMs get whatever they want and are known (along with Anthopolous) for doing so. Theyíre the young ďrockstarĒ GMs that make the big splashes...its only reasonable to expect these two guys to be in love with Ohtani.

Itís obviously Ohtani isnít about the wins or the money. Otherwise he wouldnít have eliminated the Yankees, the Astros, or pretty much any other first place team.

Anyway, Iím sick of Ohtani. The bum wasted 65% of the leagues time by making them fill out these questionnaires only to wipe off every team not on the coast except for the Cubs and Rangers. He already knows what team he wants to play for, heís just milking it and itís ****ing annoying. Dude needs to go away already.

Before anyone claims butthurtness, understand that as a Mets fan, I didnít think this dude would sign with our cheap team anyways.

Have you considered that maybe they got what they wanted in these big splashes because other, better-informed GMs, did not in fact want these albatross contracts dangling from their figurative throats for years and years and years?

Having a rep for getting what you want is not necessarily the same as having a rep for getting what no one else wants.
