an Adam Lind/Pearce combo at 1B could have saved us a lot of money on Morales

Adam/Lind Pearce play 1B with Lind DHing most nights. When you face lefties, you bench Lind and rotate Martin/Donaldson/Bautista at the DH spot

the 8-10 million you could have saved could have been spent on a coughlan and a Feliz

What does it matter if someone switch hits aa long as they hits both right handed and left handed pitching? The only thing you dont want is a lineup full of right handed hitters who can only hit lefties.

Adam Lind signs with the Nats. Rumored to be a major league deal. Guessing LHB off the bench and insurance with Zimmerman at 1B.

It is a major league deal and it also comes with a club option for 2018. In before more people complain that this is a better signing than Smoak.

AJ Jimenez has also been released.

why because it is clearly a better deal than Smoak who got 2 years 8.6M Lind got 1 year 1.5M

Lind will be guaranteed $1.5MM, per Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post (via Twitter). That comes in the form of a $1MM salary for 2017 and a $500K buyout on the option.

FOX’s Ken Rosenthal tweets that Lind has agreed to a one-year deal with a club option for the 2018 season.

so only someone with no concept of finance could say that Lind's deal isnt a better bargain for the money. you'd have to be Smoak's mommy to say that...or brain dead, you pick.....I get youre a Shapiro/Atkins apologist, but come on nobody in their right mind would say Smoak is worth 6x more than Lind

Atkins was on PTS today and when asked about a guy people may not know about that may help this team this year his answer was Chris Smith.( my dark horse name for the bullpen :-) ). He said he touched as high as 98 last year and had one of the most dominating seasons in the minor leagues. He said he actually has a chance to make this team in ST too, not justa mid season or sept call up.

I knew he had good stuff, but didn't realize he could throw high 90's. Thought he was more of a 94-95 mph guy. Now it makes sense why he was able to dominate last year.

I would've given that deal to Travis Woods. Wonder if we were in on him.

Because why do we have to hear it every time someone signs. Its beating a dead horse. Everyone knows that the Lind deal is better than Smoak... and Moss and Rodriguez and Morrison and Napoli etc.

Does anyone still bring up that we got a better deal for Donaldson everytime a 3B gets traded? Its overkill... its stating the obvious.

If you focus on the negatives and something as small as your backup 1B then you are setting yourself up for stupid discussions. If spending 4M on a backup 1B for 2 years is going to make or break your team then you got bigger issues.

While that makes sense in theory, a devistating relief pitcher who owns righties takes the heart of your lineup out of play. You want diversity in your lineup for the same reason you want diversity in your BP and even your rotation.

Mike, your painfully obvious attempt at baiting is pretty pathetic. You want this forum to fall apart like it's the arm of a Mets pitcher or something.

All day for me. Worst case he is s stud rp. Best case , he slides into rotation next year. I'm surprised he signed a 2 yr deal.

That is true. However, you are still talking about hitters who hit right handed pitching better then most left handed hitters. Not guys who struggle against right handers. Sure there are more ideal options if you are trying to create the ideal theoretical lineup, but I will take JD, Bautista, Pearce, Martin Tulo and Travis against anyone. They hit everyone, doesn't matter what hand they throw with. Do you know who sucked against right handers last year...our left handed hitters.

    Left handers : .221/.302/.375 ~1500 PA's
    Right handers: .257/.339/.448 ~3500 PA's

Now, to be fair, a good chunk of those AB's were by Zeke (who had reverse splits), Thole and Smoak. About 1/3 were by Saunders, but he had reverse splits just like Zeke. Hopefully this year the bulk of the AB's from lefties is going to come from Morales. I don't think Zeke or Smoak hit well enough to justify getting the bulk of the AB's in LF and 1B. If that happens the stat won't mean much (as it will just be basically Morales' split) but that is a stat that should look much better.

What the right handed hitters didn't do is pound left handed pitching like they did the year before. They only slashed .249/.331/.414 as opposed to .277/.358/.481 in 2015. That was abnormal for most of the right handers in our lineup though, so that is another area our offense could actually be much better. Combine the 2 and it could be a decent amount of more productive PA's.

The salary amount means a lot less than the roster spot management used on a player with little value.
