Yankees have over 100M coming off their payroll at the end of the year

    Sabatthia 30M
    ARod 27M
    Tanaka 27M (opt out)
    Pineda 8M
    Holliday 13M
    Carter 3.5M

So they're gonna be flush with cash and eager to spend it on someone, and with the luxury tax reset and the rebate they get with that....(reportedly according to Bowden on MLB RADIO, somewhere in the $30-40M range, Id say they'll be all over Otani

Yes as Bowden puts it teams are eligible for a rebate of some of their past revenue sharing payments when they reset their penalty percentage by going under the threshold. So not only do they not pay the 47% penalty for every dollar spent over the 195 million threshold. They also get a partial rebate of the revenue sharing they've paid. Bowden says that he's been told that the Yankees Once they reset will be due 30-40 million.

As a repeat offender the Yankees have paid a 95% dollar for dollar tax for every cent over the 195 million threshold for the last several years. When they reset that penalty will go back to 17%

The Yankees have targeted 2018 When Machado and Harper hit free agency as When they needed to reset but they'll actually get there after this year because of all the salary coming off their payroll.

Bowden says he could see them signing both Machado and Harper because of this.

That why the Jays need to have a sense of urgency to win NOW because it's gonna get harder to do so in the coming years with the Yankees free to spend like drunken sailors again

It's amazing when you think about it. They spent 95 million on Chapman, and that was the Yankees on a budget. That's how every Met fan knows that The Wilpons are cheap a$$ed bastards, and Rogers is right there with them

The wilpons have a much more complicated situation with the mets on the financial side. Frankly I would never be a mets fan. Poorly managed from the start and still paying for those early mistakes. Wilpons should be forced to sell.

There's going to be alotta elements to him coming over though. He may only choose to play for a West Coast team like many Japanese players prefer to do.

the Wilpons made their bed and are using team revenues to pay it back, thats not complicated. its just wrong.

its like if rogers lost money on its hockey tv deal and they decided to cut payroll from the blue jays operating revenues to make up for it.

and yes the should be forced to sell...one thing about the yankees is love em or hate them, they always put the earnings back in the team...even as a Met fan I have to respect that....all teams should be as honest.

the Madoff judgment was on Fred Wilpon personally not the Mets Franchise. but Wilpon is using the Mets operating revenues ti pay his debt. He owns the team so its not Illegal, but it should be....As I say thats not complicated at all....its just purely selfish

entirely possible, but to many Japanese the New York Yankees are Major League baseball.... Matsui winning the World Series MVP as a Yankee, is still a big thing over there...we'll see i guess. the posting process limits what they can do though

I know we open with two games in Baltimore but what the **** is with the shays always p,suing at the Trop so early in the season. Nothing like a buzzkill for games 3-6. Why couldn't the Rays come to RC for a series.

MLB is pretty silly with the early schedule. The first two weeks should be indoors or warm weather cities only.

That would make too much sense. That said teams like New York might not be happy having 10 away games to start the season. But 100% that it makes zero sense having the Jays vs Rays while Baltimore and the Yankees have to play outdoors.

Yeah, there would be some teams hurt. The opening weekend shine comes off when you don't play a home game for two weeks. There should be some type of middle ground though. Minnesota on opening day can get really ugly.

Have 4 teams in Cali... 2 in Texas.. 1 in Arizona... 2 in Florida. 3 more domes in Toronto, Milwaukee, and Seattle. Atlanta is warm... thats 13. Need 2 more stadiums to a pretty safe opening week. Makes too much sense. Plus the other teams get more home games in the middle of the summer when it is nicer and more people can attend.

Can you imagine how young of a team we could have in 2019 if Bichette and Vlad rise as quickly as some think they may? We already added Gurriel who should hopefully be in the pros by 2019..., we have Tellez knocking on the door to play 1B next season and Alford is looking like the guy that made him a top prospect 2 years ago in AA. If Vlad proves he can play 3B and keeps on mashing, I don't see them paying a 33 year old huge dollars.

    DH- Morales
    C- Martin
    1B- Tellez
    2B- Bichette
    SS- Tulo
    3B- Vlad
    LF- Alford
    CF- Pillar
    RF- Bautista/Gurriel

    Bench

    Urena
    Pompey
    McBroom
    McGuire

I would pissed, but wouldn't be surprised if they let Bautista walk after this season (or trade him after the 2018 season if his clause kicks in for 2019) and then let Donaldson walk when he hits FA.

If they do though they should be able to buy a couple more legit starters and relievers to go with Sanchez, Stroman and Osuna. Or with that many rookie salaries maybe shock the baseball world and give Harper and Machado two ridiculous contracts to be our new 3B/SS and RF for the next 10 years...
