JJ Hardy signs 3 year extension

3 years, $40 million. The years are right, but definitely a pricy extension. Duquette, however, has been committed to strength up the middle for defense so I have no problem with this deal. It's also great to see Angelos committing money to retaining Hardy, instead of watching him walk, most likely to the Yankees.

Shortstop J.J. Hardy has agreed to a contract extension with the Orioles for around $40 million for three years, a source told Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. Hardy was headed for free agency in the offseason.

Hardy hit .268 with a .372 slugging percentage, .682 OPS, nine home runs, 28 doubles and 52 RBI in 141 games this season for Baltimore. It was the first time in four seasons he had less than 20 home runs and the second time in his career he struck out (104) more than 100 times.

Hardy is a career .261 hitter with a .422 slugging percentage, .734 OPS, 167 home runs and 579 RBI in 1,259 regular season games. He is a two-time All-Star and won AL Gold Gloves in 2012 and 2013.
