Lions place Van Noy on IR/designated to return, resign Darryl Tapp

Lions placed SLB Kyle Van Noy (abdominal surgery) on injured reserve/designated to return.
Van Noy's timeline has never been publicly established, but the Detroit Free Press estimated he'd miss 4-6 weeks after undergoing "core muscle surgery" last week. That would mean he should be ready to rock when first eligible to return in Week 10. The Lions are on bye in Week 9. The Lions will be rolling with Tahir Whitehead after spending the No. 40 overall pick on Van Noy.
    Lions re-signed DE Darryl Tapp.
Tapp was released at final cuts, but returns as a deep reserve/special teamer after the Lions placed rookie SLB Kyle Van Noy on injured reserve/designated to return.
Tahir Whitehead showed a lot this preseason. Hopefully he's able to hold the spot down until KVN is ready to play.

Whitehead might be better than Van Noy at this point.

I think he is. I did like KVN's motor tho.

wasn't there rumors about whitehead being the backup middle linebacker this year...

so could we possibly have a linebacker core of Levy, White, Van Noy next season?

This is what I am hoping for. Hopefully Whitehead's emergence means Tulloch will move on and we can go with a younger LB unit.

I could see that trio as the LB of the future. The OLB are pretty much set anyway, its the MLB spot that's a question mark. I know some people (other news outlets and forums) say Levy could go back to MLB but he's finally found his spot. No reason to mess with what's working. Also looks like the 2015 draft might have some good ILB's to groom behind Tulloch, in case the guys we have in place don't work out.

Levy's cover skills are way better than Tulloch's. I'd be happy with him in the middle & KVN & Whitehead as our outside guys.

    My thoughts as well.

Tulloch is simply too short to be good in coverage. Unless the ball is underthrown *cough* Romo *cough* , Tully doesn't have a chance.

It must have been an injury that built up over time because there really wasn't a report on it or and in game injury (that I remember) until he was announced out against the Jags.

As soon as he was drafted in the 2nd round by the Lions, his body started to deteriorate.

From the sounds of it he got a small injury tried to play through it and it ended up getting worse its all speculation but when you hear how the pain moved started in one location and then another it seems to me that he may have been favoring something else.

KVN coming in on passrush situations is fine by me. Next year a unit of Whitehead, Levy and KVN is fine by me.
