The Angels went 15-4 over their last 19, thats a .789 winning percentage. The A's are now 5 games back and the Mariners are now 9.5 games back.

If we went 13-13 (.500) over the rest of the season the A's would have to go 16-10 (.615) over their 26 remaining games in order to tie us for the division lead.

If we went 15-11 (.577) the A's would have to go 18-8 (.692) the rest of the way

If we win more than 15 games it would be almost impossible for the A's to catch us

Rosters expand today I expect a lot of guys to be called up

Current Roster/Expect to be called up

    Starting Pitchers

    Jered Weaver
    Matt Shoemaker
    Hector Santiago
    C.J. Wilson
Drew Rucinski/Randy Wolf (not on the 40)

    Relief Pitchers

    Huston Street
    Joe Smith
    Kevin Jepsen
    Jason Grilli
    Fernando Salas
    Mike Morin
    Michael Roth
    Yoslan Herrera
    Cory Rasmus
    Cam Bedrosian
    Vinnie Pestano
    Joe Thatcher (DL)

    Catchers

    Chris Iannetta
    Hank Conger

    Infielders

    Albert Pujols
    Howie Kendrick
    David Freese
    Erick Aybar
    John McDonald
    Gordan Beckham
    Grant Green
    C.J. Cron
    Efren Navarro

    Outfielders

    Josh Hamilton
    Mike Trout
    Kole Calhoun
    Collin Cowgill
    Brennan Boesch
    J.B. Shuck
    Tony Campana

The Angels don't normally carry more than 30-31 guys when rosters expand, but I don't see them leaving any of those guys off. The Angels only have 38 guys on their 40 man roster right now. The 3 guys that I don't see them calling up are Jose Alvarez, Luis Jimenez, and Ryan Wheeler. I also think that Shuck and Rucinski could be guys that don't get called up. We will probably add John Buck to the 40 man roster because Scioscia loves carrying 3 catchers. I also don't think we go with a bullpen instead of a 5th starter, Rucinski has been good in Triple-A and is already on the 40 man. Wolf would be the next guy in line behind Rucinski.

If we went 13-13 in the last 26, wouldn't the A's have to go 18-8 to catch us and tie? 13-13 vs 16-10 is the 3 game difference. We were up 5 starting today so we would finish with a 2 game lead. Or am I missing something here?

Who cares? We just have to keep winning. Don't take the weak teams lightly, and get all the bats and arms ready for the postseason!

Damn it's good to be exited about baseball again. These last four years have been brutal!

The only guys still on the 40 man roster who didn't get called up are Jose Alvarez, Drew Rucinski, Joe Thatcher (DL), and Ryan Wheeler.

That means the Angels are carrying 36 guys, and Thatcher will make that 37 when he returns. I can't remember the Angels ever carrying that many in September.

Ya you're right. I was thinking if we played .500 and they went 5 games over .500 that would close the gap but that would only be 2.5 games.

The A's would need to go 20-6 if the angels win 15-11.

Is there a team closer to the angels record wise than the A's?

His defense is better than Freese and so is his offense "so far". Playing the hot hand.

Defense is the main reason and I'm guessing they want to see if he could break out with a change of scenery. It isn't like Freese has shown us anything amazing. I don't mind having him at third base and DHing Freese, but from what I heard Freese didn't sound to happy about it. Can't believe Backham was the 8th pick. Guy has been pretty bad.

of the angels remaining 26 games 11 are against teams over .500 with 1 coming against Cleveland, and Cleveland could potentially be under .500 by that point.
12/13 games come against the 3 worst teams in the AL Texas-Houston-Minn.
