He had a really nice career, if he does decide to actually hang them up. I was kind of hoping the deal with the Dodgers would go through today, but nonetheless he's had a nice career with the bat.

Something tells me there will be a multi-$M offer from some team that will change his mind. Terrible WAR numbers most of his career, but not bad OBP and the power is undeniable.

Am surprised when he is so close to 500 home runs. Not that he deserves to be in the HOF but with offense down so significantly, he might be one of the last guys to get to that number for quite a while besides Papi. I know he put up some of his better home run seasons while the steroid era was still going on but 500 home runs would have at least put him in the discussion.

There has never been another player like Dunn. In the history of baseball, never has a player had as high a % of their PA end in a BB/K/HR with the number of plate appearances Dunn has.

How can that lull you to sleep?

Yeah, Dunn is power only but he's had a very good career at doing just that.
    Favourite Teams:

Boston Red Sox: Disappointing regular season, hoping for good things in 2015.
Indianapolis Colts: 5-2, Week 8 vs. Steelers
Dallas Mavericks: New team, hoping for good things this season.
Ottawa Senators: 4-1-0, games this week vs. Toronto, New Jersey, Chicago

I think he realizes he's not going to be paid very much after this season.

Funny thing is I look at his numbers and they're nearly identical to Mark Teixeira's. He actually has better offensive production. Defensively Mark is much better, but I'm not sure it's that drastic of a difference. I've seen Teix look very shaky in the field this year.

Teix will be paid nearly $23M/yr for the next 2 years. Adam Dunn is going to retire? I wish Teix would do the same.

Here's where WAR and reality (IMO) do not coincide.

He has had a very nice career, but he has only 16.8 rWAR over 14 seasons.

In his best 9 year stretch, he had 18 rWAR. He was by definition an average MLB starter over the course of those 9 years according to that.

I think he was more valuable. His bat was near elite (just a fraction behind David Ortiz) over that time period of 9 years.

    .900 OPS
    4th in HR's
    17th in offensive runs created

He was not a league average player to me. Not with a bat like that.
