Kyle Orton pulls fast one on Cowboys, agrees to deal with Bills

Quarterback Kyle Orton must have really, really hated retirement because it didn't last long.

He likely never wanted to retire, of course. But through his threats, he convinced the Dallas Cowboys he did. There was a standoff all offseason as Orton refused to show up to camp, but also refused to pay back the prorated part of his signing bonus if he retired, a little more than $3 million. The Cowboys gave up the fight and released him in July.

And voila, Orton was free to sign with any team. He did the veteran thing, skipped training camp and preseason, and has agreed to a one-year deal with a one-year player option with the Buffalo Bills to back up EJ Manuel, Tim Graham of the Buffalo News reported.

So Orton got to keep the $3 million he was going to have to pay back if he retired, got to escape Dallas which, apparently was the goal, considering he was due a $3.25 million base salary from the Cowboys, which isn't bad ... and yes, feel free to make a joke about Orton rather playing for the Bills than the Cowboys and landed a backup job behind a quarterback who has looked shaky all preseason.

It's probably fair to say Orton won't be asked back for any reunions at Cowboys Stadium by owner Jerry Jones anytime soon.

I'd go with both and add he'd rather play in Buffalo which tells you the state of the Cowboys when players would rather go to the Bills.

He's one of the best backups in the league. Why wouldn't you pay him $5 million if you could with EJ Manuel as your starter?

Doesn't surprise that such a smart move could be played on that horrible GM employed by Jerry Jones.

I say he's the best QB on the roster honestly , he was very good in Denver until he got hit with the Tebow . After that he weren't to Dallas and now he's in a good spot to play with a QB who prob will struggle IMO .

True with Manuel as the starter it's almost a guarantee that Orton will start. Man EJ's looked bad.

Believe what you want Buffalo fans but the truth is the reason Orton left is because he actually does not want to play. He only wants to get paid. He was upset when he actually had to go into a game last year. That was the reason he chose a team with a young QB that Buffalo really wants to play. He knows he'll never have to actually play. Like I said believe what you want but you will see.

When he was the starter in Denver he led them to an 0-3 record so he wasn't that good.

Did they have a new system and coach that year because the two seasons before that with them he had 21 TD's and 12 ints and 20 TD's and 9 ints .

New system and coach for Tebow as well but he seemed fine and he's supposed to be the veteran.

So 3 games of bad play in a new system and new head coach outweighs the majority of good play he did in Denver ? Gotcha and yea Tebow played well we know how that went but he also had the advantage of a coach who wanted him . But no excuses Kyle played bad those games but he still overall was good for them .

So despite Romo's injury history, he has less of a chance to play in Buffalo than Dallas? I agree he wants to get paid, but not sure I'd buy that. Regardless, a ***** move by Neckbeard.
Props to VCU4LIFEGOVIKS for the sig

His best years were with Chicago his time has passed and he's now just playing for a paycheck. Also people seem to forget that same team that Orton led to an 0-3 record won the division with Tebow. I hate when people downplay that like it's nothing.
