Realistically speaking Pirates probably need at least 2 vs the Cardinals here. Time is running out and losing against our fellow playoff contenders will bury us quickly.

Wow! Simply wow. Gregory Polanco has been demoted back to AAA. No word on the corresponding move but it will likely be either Tabata or Lambo I'd presume.

Well looks like it will be Tabata. A 40 man move will be needed but that could come from a Barmes for Nix swap.

I'm sure he'll be back up in a week, right? Give him a little break and see if he can flip the switch a little for the stretch run. I don't mind it

Yeah he'll be back September 2nd. He either has to wait 10 days or until after the Indianapolis season is over (which is September 1st). The only way I can see he wouldn't is if the Indians some how pull off a miracle and make the playoffs (they are 6 back with 8 games remaining) and then he would have to wait the full 10 days but even that seems highly unlikely.

Really didn't see that coming but there are enough reasons behind it for it to make sense

    Moves are official.

Polanco has been optioned to AAA.
    Tabata has been recalled
Barmes has been reinstated from the DL
    Nix has been DFA'd

So swap Polanco out for Tabata and Nix out for Barmes

Even with the new additions the lineup remains the same including Alvarez at 1B again. I'm still not sure I agree now is the time for this experiment but it is what it is so hopefully Alvarez brings his bat tonight.

    Harrison, 3B
    Snider, RF
    Cutch, CF
    Walker, 2B
    Martin, C
    Alvarez, 1B
    Marte, LF
    Mercer, SS
    Liriano, P

Charlie Morton will have a rehab start in Altoona on Thursday. I wasn't sure we'd see him again this year.

Cheese Chester will also be making a rehab appearance there presumably racing against the bagels.

Nice to see Pedro continue to play well. A much-needed strong outing from Frankie too. HOLD ON, PLEASE!!!

Same result as yesterday. Cutch hits a 9th inning bomb to bring it within one but nothing else.

With the loss yesterday and Wainwright staring us down tomorrow the Pirates find themselves in another situation where a win is almost a must. The lineup is what has become the regular lineup with the exception that Mercer gets the night off and Barmes gets into the action.

    Harrison 5
    Snider 9
    Cutch 8
    Walker 4
    Martin 2
    Alvarez 3
    Marte 7
    Barmes 6
    Cole 1
