St. Louis Cardinals @ Philadelphia Phillies
Friday, August 22, 7:05 PM EDT , Citizens Bank Park
Adam Wainwright, RHP
Kyle Kendrick, RHPWainwright became the Majors' second 15-game winner on Sunday but has allowed four or more runs in three of six starts since the All-Star break. He is still pitching deep into games, having gone at least seven innings in 20 of 24 starts.
Saturday, August 23, 7:05 PM EDT , Citizens Bank ParkKendrick has a 9.00 ERA in the first inning, which is the highest in baseball among pitchers with at least 20 starts this season. He has also allowed eight first-inning home runs, including one Saturday to the Giants' Hunter Pence.
Shelby Miller, RHP
David Buchanan, RHPMiller had five strong innings but one that sunk him in his last start. He allowed four hits and as many runs in a 38-pitch third that was the latest example of an inning imploding for him. Walks continue to be a problem for Miller, too.
Sunday, August 24, 1:35 PM EDT , Citizens Bank ParkBuchanan scattered nine hits, two earned runs and one walk and struck out four in 6 2/3 innings Sunday against the Giants. It was his third consecutive quality start since replacing Cliff Lee in the rotation this month.
Justin Masterson, RHP
Jerome Williams, RHPMasterson had a stretch of 11 straight scoreless innings end in the fifth his last time out when he allowed four runs. He continues to work through mechanical issues, the latest being a tendency to let his arm drag too far behind his body.
Williams has made a good first impression in Philadelphia. After throwing seven innings of one-run ball vs. the Marines on Aug. 18, he has a 2.19 ERA through his first two starts as a Phillie.
