    Should we sign Rusney Castillo?

Rusney Castillo is supposed to go through his offers this weekend and decide next week where to sign. There are lots of reports that the Giants are one of the teams who will be going after Castillo. Is the the shot in the arm we've been needing? Would that hinder our ability to sign panda? WHY IS DANIEL CARBONELL NOT BEING TALKED ABOUT?! Granted...it is a small sample size...dude is tearing it up down in SJ.

Yes, we absolutely should. But we won't get him. Even if we do sign him, I doubt he'd get much playing time because we have Morse. With Bochy, Morse will get all the playing time he wants/needs.

We've talked about Carbonell a little here, but like you said it's been a small sample size, six games to be exact and it's in the hitter friendly CAL League. I'd like to see how he fares the EL.

I hope Sabes pulls it off. We'd have to open the pocket book a bit...but man do we need help. I was digging for some info on Gustavo Cabrera...crazy stuff. Our farm system needs some help. How does the Dominican Summer League work? We have a guy down there damn near leading the league in most offensive catagories. Is there a protocal for them moving up our minor league system?

That guy still has to be pretty young if he's still there isn't he?

One main reason why I don't think we get him is because they don't want to add long-term money due to our free-agents-to-be and then there's also the aspect where they don't like hand out much money to players that aren't their own.

The Giants think they arn't that far from another championship. Looking at the teams this year, they may be right. Adjustments here and there could do it. They will spend their money on people with track records and larger sample sizes, FA's. Someone like this, they would want on the farm to get a good look at him of course.

They should try something outside the box and go with a risk. There is no one on the free agent market that is very intriguing regarding outfielders (only one is Cuddyer, Melky isn't coming back). We have a limited amount of prospects (Crick, Susac, Panik, Duffy, Blackburn, Mejia, Blach, but none are can't miss prospects) we can work with on the trade market, so why not go after someone like this, who seems to be a great fit for our ballpark?

I'd love to see the Giants help out the Cubbies with some pitching and get Bryant or Russell. They have a crowded infield of blue chip prospects...the cubs know that...why not help them out? It's a win-win situation.

They'd be awesome, but they're not going to trade them, at least not to us. And if they did they would want major league pitching. Bumgarner would intrigue them, but we obviously don't want to give him up and we don't have the pitching prospects to entice them to give up any of those two.

I doubt that Castillo will play right away wherever he signs, he hasn't faced professional pitching in how long? He's probably going to go play in the minors somewhere for the rest of the year, then play in the Arizona winter league or something before making his debut next year.

I think there are a few reasons it doesn't happen with any team, reason one seems to be immigration laws, it takes a few months before a team feels someone is worthy of a promotion, by this time now they would have him come up and play like 4 weeks in the Arizona summer league at most. He has to get a work visa from the INS and that could take a little while. I just don't think most teams want to go through the hassle mid season.

Maybe not for those prospects, but maybe for someone like Castro.

If Giants are serious about having a winning atmosphere they obviously should pursue. They could move Morse to 1b and then enter 2015 with Castillo as their opening day LF, that would at least lessen the blow of going cheap at 2nd and 3rd.

It seems like he may get something around what Puig got. Maybe a bit less because his bat isn't as good as Puig's. We'll find out soon enough though since he's expected to sign next week (obviously not with us).
