    Oakland Athletics (73-48) @ Atlanta Braves (61-60) 8/15-8/17

    @

    Oakland Athletics @ Atlanta Braves

    Friday, 8/15 7:35 PM

    Jason Hammel, RHP (1-4, 5.90 ERA/6.16 FIP/5.07 xFIP)vs Alex Wood, LHP (5-8, 2.83 ERA/3.33 FIP/3.32 xFIP)

After four ugly starts for Oakland, Hammel is starting to turn it around. He limited the Twins to one run in 6 1/3 innings on Sunday, lowering his ERA to 5.90 in six starts with the A's.

Wood achieved new career-high numbers with 12 strikeouts and 124 pitches as he limited the Nationals to only one run in 7 1/3 innings in his last turn. Wood owns a 2.10 ERA in eight Interleague outings (three starts).

    Saturday, 8/16 7:10 PM

    Sonny Gray, RHP (12-6, 2.86 ERA/3.35 FIP/3.51 xFIP)vs Julio Teheran, RHP (10-9, 3.06 ERA/3.44 FIP/3.60 xFIP)

Gray lost to the Royals on Monday despite yielding just two earned runs (three total) in seven innings. The righty scattered six hits and three walks with two strikeouts in his third straight loss, a stretch that follows six straight wins.

Teheran was bidding for a shutout before surrendering five hits in Monday's three-run sixth. Since producing a 2.29 ERA through his first 18 starts, he has posted a 5.24 ERA in the seven starts that have followed.

    Sunday, 8/17 8:00 PM

    Jon Lester, LHP (3-0, 2.49 ERA/1.98 FIP/3.13 xFIP)vs Mike Minor, LHP (4-8, 5.33 ERA/4.51 FIP/3.72 xFIP)

Lester improved to 3-0 with the A's on Tuesday after limiting the Royals to three runs on six hits and two walks with nine strikeouts over six innings. The lefty has a 2.55 ERA with Oakland and he hasn't lost a game since June 7.

As Minor worked 6 2/3 strong innings on Tuesday against the Dodgers, he looked much more aggressive and confident than he had at any point this season. The lefty seemed to benefit from having a turn skipped earlier this month.

Since we have been losing every series against a good team and been thoroughly outclassed by the top/elite teams...there is zero indication that we can actually win this series.

This series may prove to be the end of any hope to our season...but on the flipside it could also be the start of a run. Bottom line..if we want a shot..we got to be within 3 games by the end of the month. 6 games or further and we're done.

We lost this years first rd pick when signing Santana. The draft already happened. We still have next years first.

idk, I have a good feeling about this series with Wood, Teheran and Minor (if the Dodger game is any indication he is back to form) I will say we take 2 out of 3 because Oakland's offense has been scuffling a bit.

Mehhh. Simba getting a day off due to precaution, I presume. They did say he would get a day off after he comes back.

Prefer Chris and TLS swapped but whatever.

Freeman said they had to start playing well now or forget it. Seems they are taking the word well right now.

Well I'll be damned...Hammel is not all that good of a pitcher but we have certainly did worse against worse.

Good start to the series. Alex Wood continues to be awesome starting. Knew we had a stud with this kid.

Too bad the Nats also won. But...it is what it is.

Solid game. I love Phil Gosselin as a utility guy! He can flat out hit!

Whoa boy, looks like Fredi is fascinated with Gosselin now..going to take out one of our better hitters in TLS. I bet it's because "he's a righty and I can plug him hitting 2nd."

JT only made two mistakes tonight, they just so happened to be back to back but other than that an outstanding night and as a result he is in position to pick up the W.

Well this makes sense huh? Taking a series against the best team in baseball (record wise at least). We all saw this coming..I'm sure.

Alright, so here's what we're going to do. We're riding the hot hand. Just found out Phil Gosselin can play LF. So move J-hey to CF, Justin to RF. KEEP TLS in the lineup FREDI.

So that way you can have your righty hitting 2nd, Fredi..and have it not be Simba and still have TLS in the lineup.

Yes if he keep hitting, let him play left and put bj on the bench, he is useless.
