Shelby Miller, RHP
Tom Koehler, RHPMiller allowed one run on four hits over seven innings on Wednesday against the Red Sox, his best outing of the second half. In three starts this half, he has surrendered five runs in 18 2/3 innings, not allowing more than four hits in any start.
Tuesday, August 12, 7:10 PM EDT , Marlins ParkIt wasn't how Koehler started his last outing, but how he finished. He gave up four in the first at Pittsburgh, but recovered to work six innings without any more damage. Koehler has gone at least five in five straight starts.
Adam Wainwright, RHP
Jarred Cosart, RHPWainwright grinded through seven innings Thursday on 122 pitches en route to a seven-inning, two-run outing. The performance was a bounce-back for the right-hander, who had been coming off a seven-run start.
Wednesday, August 13, 7:10 PM EDT , Marlins ParkScratched last Thursday, Cosart will be going 11 days between starts. In his Miami debut on Aug. 1, he worked 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Reds. He felt some tightness in his back. Playing it safe, he was skipped.
Justin Masterson, RHP
Nathan Eovaldi, RHPMasterson was knocked out after two innings in his last start and allowed 12 of 18 batters to reach. After allowing one homer in his previous nine starts, Masterson served up two in that start. He's walked at least two in 14 straight outings.
If the last two starts mean anything, Eovaldi is turning the corner. In back-to-back starts vs. the Reds, he gave up one run in 15 innings with 12 strikeouts. His win at Cincinnati was his first since June 23 at Philadelphia.
