Bo Bichette is struggling again -- .167 in the last 10 games with only one walk and 10ks.

Many when they get to Double A start to struggle as breaking stuff getting better. Remember what Anthopoulos said about majority of prospects will not pan out. He must have traded 10 or 12, only 1 really burned him. The others he gained on

SRF was cruising last night until the 6 inning when he gave up a 3 run tater. Buffalo still won the game 4-3 and SRF finished with 9 K's and only 3 hits allowed, but he also walked 4 in his 5.1 innings of work. Still, a decent outing for the youngster. We could see him in some way or another in September this year. Either in the bullpen or as a starter (depending on how many people are traded in July/Aug).

NH lost 5-4, but Pompey was 2-3 with a BB as he works his way back to AAA. Bichette was 0-4. Pentecost was 2-4 with his 4th HR. Harold Ramirez stayed red hot (.432 BA over his last 10) going 3-4 with his 18th 2B to bring his season slash line now to .310/.364/.444. This is his 3rd crack at AA, but he is still only 23 years old so he got there at a young age like Bichette. He had a rough April, but since the beginning of May he has been a solid part of that NH offense.

    May- .310/.378/.405 with 8 doubles
    June- .308/.351/.473 with 6 doubles and 3 HR's
    July- .452/.486/.742 with 3 doubles and 2 HR's (in 8 games)

Last years rough season when he was repeating a level he actually did well in the previous season in 2016 where he slashed .311/.360/.407 at age 20 in AA. After hitting .337/.399/.458 in the FSL the season before that at age 19. I don't know he will ever hit 20 HR's (considering his career high is 6...which is this season), but he may hit .300.

In Dunedin, Riley Adams went 3 for 4 with a 2B and Kevin Smith went 2 for 4 with his 9th HR (in the FSL, 16th overall) and a SB as Dunedin won 3-0.

Lansing brought the lumber to work yesterday winning 11-8:

    Noda- 2 for 3 with 2 2B and 2 BB's
    Young- 1 for 5 with a slam
    Vicuna- 2 for 4 with a BB
    Obeso- 2 for 4 with 2 SB's (including a steal of home)

Vancouver also brought the bats to work in their 7-1 win. They had 7 batters with multi-hit games:

    O. Lopez- 3 for 5 with a HR
    Kirwer- 2 for 5 with a 3B
    Y. Rodriguez- 2 for 5
    Conine- 3 for 5
    Guzman- 2 for 4 with a BB
    Bec- 2 for 4 with a BB and 2 SB's
    Steinmetz- 2 for 4 with a 2B and a 3B

Bluefield won 5-4 behind another solid start from Nathanael Perez (a 20 year old RHP from the DR). Perez went 6 IP giving up just 1 ER with 7 K's. He went 7-1 last year with a 1.42 ERA in 13 starts in the DSL, and he is now 2-0 this season with a 3.86 ERA after 4 starts. There is another 3B quietly off to a hot start there too. He was a late draft pick though so nobody knows who he is...at least not yet. Davis Schneider (a 28th round pick in 2017) went 1-2 with a HR, BB and SF. He is striking out a lot, but after 18 games the 19 year old is slashing .298/.414/.561 so he's got some pop and he can get on base.

The GCL Jays won 2-1. Groshans and Moreno each went 2 for 4 with a 2B. The 18 year old Moreno is now hitting .380/.415/.680 over his first 12 games with 5 doubles, 2 triples and 2 HR's. Groshans is now hitting .328/.408/.508 with 19 RBI's in 16 games. Not sure what the deal is with Kloffenstein, but the dude hasn't pitched yet. Did anyone hear anything about him being injured when they drafted him?

The DSL Blue Jays won 4-1. Hiraldo was 1 for 3 with a BB and SB. Rainer Nunez (a 6'3, 160 lb 17 yr old 3B) went 2-4 with his 7th 2B and 2nd HR.

Jays well represented in Futures Game last night by Bichette and Jansen...which the US eventually won 10-6. Bichette started at SS and went 1-3 while Jansen started behind the plate, went 1-2 and tied the game at 3's in the 4th inning with a 2 run bomb!

I don't see how they let Russell Martin be their starting catcher in the 2nd half. Jansen is ready for the next step while Martin is hitting .179/.328/.285 with 6 HR's and 17 RBI's and throwing out just over 21% of base runners. As good as Maile was early, he has come back down to the old Maile and over the last 30 days is hitting just .182/.256/.212. I say you DFA Maile and send him to Buffalo until Sept. Then bring Jansen up and let him start everyday after the all star break. Then next year he and Martin can split time next year if Martin is still on the roster.

Don't look now, but there are 2 more young catchers starting to make waves in the lower levels too. Last year's second round pick 19 year old Hagen Danner is hitting .355 with 4 doubles in Bluefield over his last 10 games and is now slashing .286/.444/.381 with 9 BB's and 10 K's over his first 13 games. Gabriel Moreno (18) is one of like 8 catchers playing for the GCL Blue Jays, but over his first 13 games the youngster from Venezuela is slashing .389/.421/.667 with 2 HR's, 2 triples and 5 doubles. He is also throwing out 38.5% of runners so far (5 of 13). He is currently in the middle of a 4 game streak of 2 for 4 performances with 3 doubles and a triple. He hasn't walked yet, but he has also only struck out 4 times over his first 54 AB's.

Eric Pardinho picked up his 2nd W of the season last night in Bluefield scattering 4 hits and 3 BB's over 5 innings while fanning 6 and yielding just 1 ER.

I say keep grooming Martin to be a utility player. He's washed up offensively for the past 2 years. I'll even say he may have to call it quits. Jansen is ready !

Youk walked a tonne in the minors, but I think Noda has more pop than Youk did. His numbers didn't pop off the page until he got to play in Fenway 81 games a year. His career high in HR's was 8 until he was 27 years old.

    How about this...

    Player A- Ryan Noda 6'3, 217 lb

    in Rk (at 21)- .364/.507/.575 with 7 HR's, 2 triples and 18 2B's with 60 SO's and 59 BB's in 276 PA's.
    in A (at 22)- .259/.425/.475 with 11 HR's, 2 triples and 20 2B's with 87 SO's and 71 BB's in 346 PA's.

    Player B- ???? 6'2, 220 lb

    in Rk (at 19)- .317/.452/.488 with 6 HR's, 3 triples, and 17 doubles with 80 SO's and 56 BB's in 301 PA's
    in A (at 20) - .302/.419/.486 with 14 HR's, 2 triples and 26 doubles with 110 SO's and 79 BB's in 473 PA's

Who is player B you ask?..............Well it's none other than Joey mother effing Votto! One of, if not the best OBP guy in basbeall over the past decade. (He hasn't had a healthy season in the majors with an OBP under .414.)

Noda has been older at each level, but that is the type of production he is putting up.

Vladdy went 2-4 with a 2B last night in Dunedin. Not sure why he was put there and not back in NH if he was ready to play.

Kevin Smith was 2-4 with a 3B and SB too. He is now slashing 327/.381/.587 with 17 HR's, 6 triples, 30 doubles and 21 SB's (in 24 attempts) in just 89 games! If Vladdy is promoted than Smith should be promoted up to AA.

Osuna also pitched his 2nd inning (the first inning of the game) giving up nothing and striking out 1.

Anything to stretch out his promotion to the majors.
