Expect that this year we won't sweat a 100 loss season.

Playoffs as a very, very remote possibility was discussed and there was nothing wrong with
that. No one was very serious about that possibility though.

Having said that, this team appears to lack motivation from Ventura and his coaching staff. I wonder if that had led to some of the dismal performances by our pitching staff that have resulted in blow-outs, sweeps, and late inning losses. If you subtract Abreu and Eaton, this is the exact same thing as last season and without them it could have been worse.

Forget position players for next year....this offseason should focus 100% on reliable pitching....nothing else unless it falls to us. With the young skilled talent we have in the field....it is not right to give them a staff like this. They will not want to stay beyond their current deals unless we can become competitive.

Bobby Thigpen is the acting pitching coach in Coop's absence.

The abysmal failure of the bullpen is something that Sox fans like myself have been told to expect for the rest of this season, at least. That is what Ventura and Hawk have been telling with Hawk stating "It is what it is" with the bullpen, so don't expect any personnel changes there.

Meanwhile look what Epstein has done recently to at least try to fortify the bottom of the pitching rotation and their farm system (and I hate to go to the Cub comparison but hey, they are the other team in town..) Epstein reportedly put in a claim for Hamels while he was on waivers. Then he traded for Jacob Turner who at 23, has some potential and made a smaller move in acquiring Felix Doubront.

So maybe those moves will prove counterproductive but the relative inactivity by the Sox makes me think there may be some complacency and a resignation to failure for the rest of this season. On the flip side of that Hawk rattles off the names of some the Sox minor league talent ( Carlos Sanchez, Phegley, Micah Johnson, Semien) and claims that the Sox will be a "force to be reckoned with" in the future. That is not even a credible claim based on a group of minor league players who for the most part have been projected by Scouts as utility players at the major league level. Hawk calls Sierra ( "stank" who was DFAed from Toronto) a 5 tool player with tons pf potential. And no mention of Matt Davidson any longer by Hawk or Hahn. How about being more realistic and honest with fans?

I hope Rodon pans out as a late season call-up and that Avisail Garcia begins to live up to the 5 tool hype. If not, there won't be much to look forward to at least for the rest of this season on the field or from the front office. At least they should try to avoid getting blown out repeatedly.

Well, the bats have gotten quiet too...........I hope this is temporary because this reminds me of the second half collapse of last year. This team was exciting to watch despite the record....but....when nobody is doing anything....not so much.

    BTW...how is Eaton ?
