    Matt Reynolds

I pose this question to those posters who are so knowledgable about our Farm System because I am not nor pretend to be.

Can Matt Reynolds be our SS for the future ? I just read his stats in Triple A and they are quite impressive but I know really nothing about him. How is his range at SS, his arm, etc.

    Thanks in advance.

    Short term future, yes.
    Long term future, no.

Better defensively than Tejada, but by no means a wizard there.

    Good OBP, no real power.

    This is VERY highly debatable.

Terry Collins has destroyed 3 clubhouses on 2 different continents and is now working on #4. Quite possibly the worst manager in Major League History.

Put this idiot into a cannon and fire him into the East River.

Made changes to his swing this season and produced with the bat. How that translates to MLB... no idea.

I take it back, re: Minor League Thread. I thought it was your opinion, but I definitely trust the FO on this issue.

Is Gary Cohen a member of the FO?

Now you're going to call Gary Cohen and Kevin Burkhardt liars? That's pretty low Dug. I have no reason not to trust their statements. Do you?

No he isn't, but he does have access to them.

Tejada isn't exactly Ozzie Smith with the glove/range/arm...and about the only 2 things that he does semi-right offensively is hit LHP and draw walks...and that is inflated by 11 intentional walks and by being pitched around as the #8 hitter...

so as long as Reynolds is a semi-competent shortstop, what does it hurt (other than TC's ego) to give the guy a chance to prove that he's no worse than Tejada?

Adam Rubin also had this a couple of weeks ago:

    • Matt Reynolds has continued his offensive surge since a promotion to Triple-A. In 24 Pacific Coast League games, the former second-round pick out of Arkansas is hitting .337/.389/.453. Not known for being accomplished defensively, Mets personnel nonetheless say he is showing better range at shortstop than Ruben Tejada and Omar Quintanilla possess. That’s not a terribly high bar, but suggests he may be viable at the position in the majors.
I think his arm may be a bit less than Tejada, but overall I think he should be as good defensively. I don't think the bat will hold up *that* well at MLB level, but it's probably still enough to start at SS.

In the other link i posted they question his hands and feet.

I don't think he is a long term answer, but could put him there for the meantime, specially if he hits.

I like him. Not sure he's our future SS, but we won't know unless we give him a shot.

Reynolds Twitter handle is @ReyRey_5. Do you think he knows about Rey Rey?
