    Atlanta Braves (58-51) @ San Diego Padres (48-60) 8/1-8/3

    @

    Atlanta Braves @San Diego Padres

    Friday, 8/1 10:10 PM

    Mike Minor, LHP (4-6, 5.23 ERA/4.45 FIP/3.64 xFIP) vs Eric Stults, LHP (3-13, 5.22 ERA/5.04 FIP/4.30 xFIP)

Minor gave up two or more homers in a game for the fifth time this season in his most recent start, which was otherwise a return to form. It was only the left-hander's third quality start in the past nine outings.

Stults fell to 0-9 on the road the last time out when he had a weird start in a loss to the Braves. He allowed six runs on six hits with one walk in the third inning, but his other five innings of work were scoreless and hitless with one walk.
    Saturday, 8/2 8:40 PM

    Ervin Santana, RHP (10-6, 3.63 ERA/3.09 FIP/3.23 xFIP) vs Ian Kennedy, RHP (8-9, 3.66 ERA/3.09 FIP/3.29 xFIP)

Santana tied a career high with 11 strikeouts on Monday vs. San Diego, pitching eight scoreless innings in a 2-0 victory. He has tossed at least seven innings in four of his past five starts.

Kennedy was scratched from his last start with mild soreness in his left oblique, an injury he actually suffered swinging the bat against the Cubs. He'll get the Braves at Petco Park, where his ERA is a full run (4.18) higher than on the road (3.18).

    Sunday, 8/3 4:10 PM

    Aaron Harang, RHP (9-6, 3.43 ERA/3.54 FIP/4.12 xFIP) vs Tyson Ross, RHP (10-10, 2.60 ERA/3.12 FIP/2.99 xFIP)

Harang allowed four runs on nine hits, walking one and striking out three across six innings against the Dodgers on Tuesday.

Ross (10-10) allowed one run on four hits, walking five and striking out seven over six innings on Tuesday. Ross struggled with his command early on in this one, walking five batters in his first three innings after tallying just five walks total in his prior 35 innings pitched. Some timely strikeouts and a double play helped him get through that stretch unscathed, though he did let up a run in the fifth inning on a Kolten Wong sacrifice fly. The right-hander has now won three straight starts for the first time in his career, and has gone six-plus innings while allowing two runs or less in eight straight starts, which is the second longest such streak in the majors. He'll carry a 2.60 ERA with him into his next start against the Braves on Sunday.

Need that bounce back series. 1.5 games back. TLS is finding that stroke in the 2-hole....with that...think we can go on a run...well if the middle of the lineup does their damage.

Be nice if we had J-hey back.

#Braves expected to DFA Schafer (he's out of minor league options) and option lefty Shreve today to open 2 spots after Thursday's trade.

#Braves Heyward said he's not playing tomorrow, will get back as soon as Saturday if keeps improving
    .

Alrighty then, Boni more than likely starting at RF then. That's fine. He's a much better defender than Doumit there...and his splits against lefties for his career is .292/.339/.376 .714 OPS. .318 wOBA.

He's got most of his AB's in the 1st (1.240 AB's)/2nd (527 AB's)/8th hole (223 AB's). Ain't no way he's taking AB's away from TLS in the 2 hole. So if I'm Fredi, I'll try him leading off when he's starting. He also has a career .271/.325/.352 .303 wOBA leading off.

When compared to B.J for this season, it really isn't all that different. .250/.309/.352 .296 wOBA.

Could even argue that Emilio is slightly better than B.J leading off for their careers (B.J- .243/.322/.397 .318 wOBA). Granted B.J has better power but Emilio has hit for a higher clip and has slightly better OBP...though B.J would have the better patience. Still though, if you're looking for a possible quick fix...Emilio might be a decent shot.

Read online that FG said with BJ's recent success that he refuses to remove him from the 1 hole because Bono is not a starter. That being said if BJ ***** the bed here soon it is safe to expect BJ on the bench and bono in the leadoff spot

I can honestly and whole heartedly say that i wish we would have traded mike minor even if it was just for Todd Redmond. I honestly think he is that bad this season and he is just like Jair imo. The braves should have traded him after the season he had last year, we could have netted multiple top prospects for him.

So we're still keeping the blowing the opportunity to gain ground theme going, apparently.

Nats aren't playing too well. Lost again..but we can't ****in win and will remain 1.5 back. If we miss the play-offs by a game or 2..there were just SOOO many chances that we blew.

Minor didn't give us a chance...again. But we could only manage TWO hits off of Shults?? Really?? We hit Kershaw better...the hell??

At least bonifacio drew 2 BB's. Keep doing that and maybe you can knock B.J out of the lineup.

Sad day for the Braves losing Pete Van Weiren! Maybe they'll come out with some fire for him!
