Red Sox are receiving 'minor pitchers' in return. Doesn't sound that exciting.

    You mean minor "league" pitchers.

    - The Giants have acquired Jake Peavy from the Red Sox, CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman tweets. Heyman also tweets that the Red Sox will acquire minor league pitchers in return. Jen Royle of the Boston Herald tweeted this morning that Boston was close to trading Peavy to an NL team, and FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal tweeted that the Red Sox and Giants were in serious discussions.

The trade reunites Peavy with Bruce Bochy, who managed him with the Padres. The deal also provides the Giants with valuable starting pitching depth, which they needed, given Matt Cain‘s injury. The Red Sox, meanwhile, add prospect depth while clearing space for younger starting pitchers like Brandon Workman.

Peavy is making $14.5MM in his final season before free agency. In 124 innings this season, has a 4.72 ERA with 7.3 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9.

He could do well there, he won't give up nearly as many home runs. I'm sure the minor league pitchers are nothing to be excited about, especially if there are two. Maybe if we are lucky one of them ends up being a decent reliever for us.

I just like the fact this opens up a rotation spot for Workman. Hopefully this isn't the only move before the deadline.

Jake didn't pitch that poorly. He has 12QS in 20 for us. He's snakebitten.

My friend said it will be Blach and Flores.. Im not seeing that anywhere. Anyone have any info on that. I'd assume it'd be one or the other unless the Sox eat quite a bit of salary.

I heard it was Hembree and Escobar.

Good pick up if that's the case imo. Escobar is struggling this year but has good potential.

According to people, he's gone backwards mechanically. He changed his mechanics before last season which led to his great season in AA. Fix that and the RS will have another good upper level arm. PCL is also a rough place to pitch. It's a hitter's league.
