Sorry for the late thread. I'm away from home right now.
St. Louis Cardinals @ Chicago Cubs
Friday, July 25, 3:05 PM CDT , Wrigley Field
Joe Kelly, RHP
Travis Wood, LHPIn his second start since coming off the DL, Kelly threw a career-high seven innings. He recorded 15 of his 21 outs on the ground, a credit to a strong sinker. He also fixed some mechanical issues that he believed had been leading him to tip pitches.
Saturday, July 26, 3:05 PM CDT , Wrigley FieldIt's been a struggle this season for Wood, who ranks third in the NL in walks. He is 0-4 in his last six starts. Pitching coach Chris Bosio would like to see Wood get back to basics and challenge hitters more. The problem is command, or lack of.
Shelby Miller, RHP
Jake Arrieta, RHPMiller will be making his first start since July 10, as the Cardinals briefly removed him from the rotation in order to get their second-year starter some rest. Miller starts the second half looking to limit the walks and be more efficient.
Sunday, July 27, 1:20 PM CDT , Wrigley FieldArrieta somehow struck out eight over 6 2/3 innings in his last start despite being weak from a three-day battle with the stomach flu. He took the loss, only his third in 14 starts. He served up three runs to the Diamondbacks.
Adam Wainwright, RHP
Kyle Hendricks, RHPWainwright is coming off his second shortest start of the season and one in which he walked four and allowed five runs for just the third time in his career. His biggest issue was not repeating his delivery, something he should be able to fix.
Hendricks picked up his first Major League win in his second start. He threw seven scoreless innings, giving up five hits and striking out five. The right-hander was able to pound the zone, which is key for him, and keep the walks to a minimum.
