If reports are correct that the Cavs are set to sign Wiggins it is possibly the best scenario Cleveland fans could hope for.
Sure, having Kevin Love could get the Cavaliers a championship next year but they still have a great chance with the team they have. Irrelevant though since the focus here is winning MULTIPLE titles. With a team of O.C.'s (Original Cavs) there is a better chance for sustaining more long-term success.
Let me explain...
Even after LeBron isn't MVP level, which won't happen for at least 6 more seasons, or eventually retires the Cavs will still have two guys (Kyrie and especially Wiggins) that have every bit as much ability to be two of the best players in the league. Most greats don't make it past the 20/40 rule, make it to 20 seasons or play at 40 years of age. Meaning even after LeBron the Cavs can still keep chugging. Even the Edmonton Oilers won the Stanley Cup the very next year after Gretzky left.
Translation: The Cavs could take the Boston Celtics approach of selling the farm for a lot of talent like "the Big 3", only win one title, then fall apart.
Build like the San Antonio Spurs. They're a small market team who have won 5 titles in over a FIFTEEN YEAR SPAN!!!
I know Cleveland is tired of waiting for a championship but building the Cavs the right way could make them one of the preeminent franchises in the sport pumping out titles like its their job...because frankly it is.
What's your take on building the Cavaliers?
