If Jose Abreu Had Signed A One Year 'prove it' Deal

Fangraphs ranked him as tenth on the trade value chart, saying that he would likely get 200m on an open market, knowing how well his game has translated. Lets pretend he signed for 1 year and is hitting FA next season, what type of contract do you guys think he would be looking at? They basically called him an older version of Stanton.

    5/150?

Jose Abreu is good at baseball. I'm glad a team like the White Sox scored him. They deserve a good team. They've done a very nice job with their rebuild this far even after a nice 2012.

    Glad he didn't!

5 more years at the cheap side price of $11 mil + a year as we have Sale locked up also for three more years.

That makes a mid $75 payroll in the off season to plug other wholes with PKs and Dunn's contracts gone.

All on Hahn with a better plan for money over Kenny Williams to improve for a chance. Jerry will pony up two years for now if he sees the Sox are great all around with the Bulls to see both franchises with a good chance in the next three years to win a championship.

Abreu's on pace for 4.5 - 5 WAR this season.
    He's 27

If we give him 3 more years at his current level of production then give him a half win decline each season after that and assume a $6.5 million per WAR next year with 5% inflation

    We get
    Code:
    YEAR WAR VALUE TOTVALUE
    2015 4.75 $30.9 $30.9
    2016 4.75 $32.4 $63.3
    2017 4.75 $34.0 $97.3
    2018 4.25 $32.0 $129.3
    2019 3.75 $29.6 $158.9
    2020 3.25 $27.0 $185.9
    2021 2.75 $24.0 $209.9
    2022 2.25 $20.6 $230.5
    2023 1.75 $16.8 $247.3
    2024 1.25 $12.6 $259.9
On an 8-year deal he'd be expected to provide $230 million in value
On a 10-year deal that's up to $260 million in value.

Now, team's aren't going to pay exactly that since they are on the hook for the money even if Abreu gets injured and is horrible. So, something like 8/$200 or 10/$225
Donít argue with idiots because they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience. óGreg King

Some people on this forum completely bashed him before the season started. waiting for the naysayers to chime in and say he is overrated and isn't even worth his current contract let alone what you guys are suggesting.

I'd hesitate saying he's worth THAT kind of money just cause I see his AVG/OBP dropping 20 points or so but he's still extremely valuable.

I would put him at around 7/175 if he was about to become a free agent this winter. I don't see anyone valuing him more than 25M per season.

i dunno, i think he would get a max of 160-170 considering everybody would be watching Chris Davis' awful year after hitting 53 homers the year before. He certainly would not get 200 million. He doesn't have that track record, even with the amazing things he is doing this year.
