I'm hoping Robinson finally gets it together

I really like Larry Donnell. He's my new Jernigan. I'll keep believing until he gets a shot.

That said, Robinson HAS TO win the starting gig. He's already getting 1st team reps in OTAs and he hasn't even played in 2 years.

He's boom/bust, so they gotta throw him out there. Physical freak and just needs to get down this new system.

Hoping we run more 4-5 WR sets (or ANY for that matter) now, so TE is less meaningful.

My money is on Robinson but I wouldn't be surprised by anyone except Fells winning the starting job. Don't think theres a chance in hell we bring a guy in, theres talent here. I hope Robinson and Donnell split time because I like what both guys should bring to the table. I think we'll keep 4 TEs.

    Really 4? Interesting.

I think the depth will be:
    Robinson
    Davis
    Donnell

Can't see them carrying 4 with the oline, WR and DB depth they need to keep.

Thank god, I was getting so sick of hearing about him.

Anyway, we carried 4 TEs last year and GB has utilized 3-4 TEs in the past so that was my reasoning. I made a final 53 prediction thread to settle it though

Some early buzz about Grimble so you might be right. I just think they'd sooner have the depth at WR, DB or even carry Painter again.

Today's UNOFFICIAL depth chart lists my boy Larry Donnell at 1st team TE. Hell yeah.

Robinson on 4th team. Fully expect that to change a lot by end of August.

This TE battle is so awesome. I think any of the 5 can earn a roster spot depending on how they play in camp and preseason games

Yes but ignore that. Jerry Reese has continually mentioned his name as a candidate to emerge in his 3rd yr similarly to Julius Thomas. Fells was starting yesterday, Donnell today. This is a completely wide open competition and everyone will get a shot, including Grimble the UDFA from USC. I mean we don't even have pads on yet.

Mm ok if you say so. Exactly, yesterday the comments of JR and today he's 4th on the depth list hehe. Still feel that it's his job to lose and still hope it's either him or Donnell that'll get it

I think it's his to lose also but the staff is going to make him work for it instead of just handing it to him. Having 5 guys in a wide open competition can really bring out the best in people so I'm sure they'll try to string it out for a while to get the most out of then

Agreed, this is the way to go.

Just hope they'll not pick our starting TE based on reliability only. I get the feeling, although I don't know him well, Davis is a reliable guy, good blocker, a what you see is what you get kind of guy. On the other hand he won't be a playmaker or anything like that.

Donnell and Robinson do have the ability to be playmakers, you just run a higher risk that they screw up sometimes too.

So imo it's not only a battle of quality, it's also somewhat affected I think by the direction the staff wants to go: reliable vs. potential playmaker...
I think TC would rather go with the reliable vet, curious to see how Ben McAdoo looks at these things...
