Was in Cleveland all weekend taking in the LeBron hysteria. Kinda stunned LeBron actually beat out Bird and Kobe on PSD. My how things have changed around here! We have an interesting list brewing. A bit less typical than last time around, which I like.

Probably going to be voting for Bird or Kobe.

    Larry Bird.

Why over Kobe? Is regular season success that much more important than playoff success?

Do you understand how tough and competitive Birds era was? Dude accomplished a lot and transcended the sport in the toughest era

    He's manys #2 or #3. Never outside of top 6. 9 us a crime

The only joke is Magic going so far ahead of all the dominant 2-way bigs.

Toughest is a subjective interpretation. I dont consider it the toughest, I actually find the free flowing 80's to be pretty soft in comparison to most eras, its why even big Bird homers like Bill Simmons admit that Bird was somewhat lucky in how he avoided the era of the lanky/athletic swingman and sophisticated zone defenses.
It was competitive but what makes it more competitive than any other? Whats the more competitive league to you, a league where there are multiple 48-52 win teams at the top or a league where there are a few 60 win juggernauts and a bunch of below par teams? There was more parity in other leagues, does that mean it was more or less competitive, is there even a right answer?

How exactly are you gauging these opinions of your and why are we ignoring Bird's massive playoff shortcomings and relatively short career.

    He's manys #2 or #3. Never outside of top 6. 9 us a crime
I dont see why. Am I suppose to ignore the many years where he went ghost? What about entering the league at an advanced age and leaving it at an early one?

Heres the thing, when making a case for a player you think highly of, you should really provide more than "what a joke you guys dont agree with my unsubstantiated opinion", try making a case against the players who Bird is competing.

I asked you 1 simple question, why Bird before Kobe. To which you gave me nothing that compares and contrasts the 2 careers, why ignore the question only to give a 1 sided opinion with nothing to back it?

I know its a popularity contest to a degree, but at least try to make a case. You guys are smarter than this

And for the record, once people start saying things like "transcends the game" you know they are exaggerating, NOBODY is bigger than the game. Plz dont be such a worshipper that you ignore the pioneers/innovators from every era. More importantly, we should focus on what they accomplished on the court, not so much on their popularity off of it.

Again, ThuglifeJ and Jerell says it's a joke but they leave simple retorts such as "what a joke", "Larry going to 9th", blah blah blah. If you put up some arguments, maybe some people will have a different view of things. You are not posting anything to prove your argument like Chronz and Pablo did and I believe that many people decided to vote James at the last day over Bird because of their post(s).

I'm going with Kobe on this one. Bird had a better peak but hard to ignore 14 years of dominance and consistency. He also has the hardware to prove it.

good call. I was going to post something along these lines haha, and I'm also voting for Kobe. I don't agree on 14 years of dominance because I've never seen him as a 'dominant' player for an entire season. he definitely has had his moments, especially in the playoffs, but I wouldn't call Kobe's game dominant. his consistency and longevity are truly admirable though, and for that he gets the vote.
