I don't get it. Dude is 34 and has no future role. We're just pulling the "plug and play" system for now?

SVG has said we want to win as much as possible now but also plan for the future. He will be a short-tern deal who will help us win now. Great pickup.

I put this in another thread, but Butler shot 39% from 3 last year. I think if there was any doubt that SVG was going to build an Orlando-esque system that surrounds a dominate big man with shooters, he's quickly dispelled that with Meeks (40% from 3), Martin (39%), Augustin (40%), and Butler (39%).

For comp. purposes, JJ was best last year at 42% and Singler was next at 38% (among actual contributors). After that was Jennings at 33%. We needed perimeter shooting, and we've got perimeter shooting now. Not the flashiest signings, but I think Meeks and Augustin will be very good players for us and Martin and Butler will be solid depth players.

Updating a previous report, the Pistons and free agent Caron Butler have agreed to terms on a two-year deal with the second year as a team option.
Now confirmed. Not bad for a one year deal. No matter what he'll have some value for us next year even if its not on the court but as trade bait.

I like that he has playoff experience. That's always a plus out of the role guys IMO. Especially with such a young core.

Like the pickup, he's going to contribute right away.... Yeah he's old but the way our SF rotation is looking he's going to log a good amount of minutes.

SF position will come down to some good competition. Not sure why you wouldn't like this signing.

Don't forget Butler is one of the better veteran presence in the league. He will be a great locker room guy.

I have a feeling we're sleeping on Datome. The nba is a huge adjustment from euroball and players like Datome have to make the biggest adjustment of all: the size difference of the ball. The size difference effects shooters more than any other type.
