Question What would you rather witness as a fan: Best statistical season or World Series win?

As a fan, which would you rather your team accomplish? Being the best team of the season undisputedly, or see your team win a championship?

I am aware that the best team could also win, but if I made that an option everyone would choose it, as there is no weight with that poll choice. Thoughts?

I'll take 85 wins and a trophy over 120 wins and no trophy 8 days a week

if the case was have the best regular season of all time or a title, id choose the best regular season of all time, that would go into the record books and your team would be remembered for years to come.. however if its just the #1 team in standings at the end of the season with not breaking any records.. id choose the championship.

As a fan of the Mariners, who have the record 116 wins, I can honestly say I think about it very infrequently, and it doesn't hold a candle to even the idea of a World Series. It's nice, but it isn't the same.
You have no idea how excited I am right now.

Exactly. The 114 the Yankees won in 98 was nice, but it wouldn't mean much without winning it all. I'm spoiled by being a Yankee fan, so I could understand why certain fans would just like a super successful season

World series and I think this is an easy answer.

I would rather have a guaranteed WS title than having 100 wins 5 straight years with a shot at the title.

so having the best record and choking in the playoffs is better than winning a ring, cup, or trophy.

Playoffs really are the antithesis of baseball. More than any other sport, you have a very clear idea of what team is the best at the end of a 162 game season, and also more than any other sport, the game involves so much random variance that we all rationally know a single series is a virtual crapshoot. And yet we go ahead and cap off that long, grueling season by crowning a champion based on something we know to be meaningless.

Know to be meaningless? Should the playoffs be an 163 game series so they have more meaning?

Sure, the World Series is really all about who is hot and healthy at that moment but that doesn't equate to being meaningless.

It's even less than "who's hot and healthy." Baseball has so much more random variance than most sports, a single game or even a short series is practically meaningless, yes. We may as well be playing 162 games to narrow down the field to eight teams who then draw straws to see who wins the championship.

If I could create a system for crowning a champion in baseball, it wouldn't look anything like traditional playoffs or even really a postseason.

What a dumb thread, of course we're all going to say a WS championship because not only is it a team accomplishment but also an entire city accomplishment as well. We could care less about individual achievements which as fans don't benefit anything from it.
