We have a 'cottage' on a lake that my family and I spend a lot of our weekends and summer times at. With it being only 20 minutes away, it makes getting away very nice and easy.
With that said, there use to be a Chaldean family that lived next to us that provided us with much entertainment, whether it be good or bad haha. When I was about 14 years old they went balls to the wall with fireworks to celebrate 4th of july (Americans aren't the only ones celebrating) and brought in two, yes two small semi trucks of fireworks in and proceeded to light off fireworks allll day and night. This family wasn't to respectful of others around them and only really cared about themselves. Anyways, not only were the adults lighting them off, their 8 to 11 year old wild children were lighting them off as well. Let's just say that that ended pretty poorly, with them throwing a couple of packages of bottle rockets and what not into our firepit, cause ya know, that's normal.... Thats just one of many memories i've had from these neighbors, it's become pretty peaceful since they left.
Years following...owner of the house as well as a brother and one of their kids has ended up in jail for selling guns, drugs and other illegal things. Owned a few party stores that were put on the news for selling that K2 crap to teens who ended up passing away. House sat empty for a few years and later was bulldozed due to unlivable conditions. The lot is now up for sale and the old Chaldean mother wants waaaaay more than what the lot is worth. Lot isn't even big enough to build on anymore.
Today is the first 4th i've celebrated out of the state of Michigan. But like always, it's being spent out by a body of water with the consumption of lots of beer.
Spent the entire week last week at our cottage on Suttons Bay, split equal time between floating around on a pontoon on the bay and stumbling from winery to winery with friends up from Florida. Still nursing a bit of a hangover this morning, but all in all, good times. Glad everyone here had a safe holiday...
As for my 4th... About 7 years ago my brother in law showed up w/ his kids or lunch, ended up staying for fireworks. The Next year he brought his mother & father in law the year after that my parents & brother showed up, then the Neighbors ect... Fast forward to this year, we had close to 30 people over. We smoked BBQ, swam & lit fireworks.
It's becoming almost too much work now... But people started talking about "it's tradition"
