    2014 Intn'l Free Agency

    It's begun.

Shortstop Amado Nunez has agreed to a $900K bonus with the White Sox, Sanchez tweets. MLB.com and BA were in consensus on his value, as both rated him the 26th-best available prospect. Though he lacks any eye-popping tools and may ultimately need to move off of shortstop, BA says that his broad-based talents tend to show up in game action.

White Sox sign Jorge Alfaro's younger brother. Alfaro is a top prospect in the Rangers system. Some scouts believe he can be just as good.

The younger brother of Texas Rangers catching prospect Jorge Alfaro, Jhoandro also has a chance to be a Major League player one day. The Venezuelan teenager has shown the ability to be an impact catcher on both sides of the ball and continues to improve.

On defense, Alfaro has displayed quick reactions behind the plate and has earned praise for his body control and ability to block balls in dirt. His arm strength might be his best tool, and he has the potential to shut down an opponent's running game.

Scouts have taken notice of Alfaro's bat and his advanced approach at the plate. Like his older brother, the younger Alfaro has good baseball instincts and good makeup. Some scouts question his body type and how that will play in the future, but others are confident that his 5-foot-8, 200-pound frame will not be an issue. Alfaro is trained by Rafael Montero in Las Coabas and is represented by Abel Guerra. The White Sox have expressed serious interest in the teenage catcher.

    2014 Intn'l Free Agency

More on Alfaro from Baseball America.

The White Sox have signed 16-year-old Colombian catcher Jhoandro Alfaro for $750,000. The younger brother of Rangers catching prospect Jorge Alfaro, Jhoandro also has a strong arm and is a more advanced defensive catcher than his older brother was when he signed, though he doesn’t have Jorge’s raw power or speed. Alfaro, who has been training in the Dominican Republic with Rafael Montero (known as “Spilman”), has grown taller since the beginning of the year and worked hard to transform his conditioning, now checking in around 6-foot-1, 180 pounds. Some scouts felt his righthanded bat will need time to catch up to his defense. Alfaro played in the Dominican Prospect League.

Other sources have him 18 years old, over 200 pounds, and still under 6 feet.

Yeah I saw but his age has been verified and he has been checked out physically by White Sox doctors. He was 5'8 before the season and shot up this year to 6'1.

    .

That a lot of money for a 16-year old, who probably never had a wallet with $20 in it. Keep him in the smallest farm team towns until he's ready.

His brother is the Rangers top prospect. He knows what is going on. Have you ever paid attention to international free agency? Last year they gave over $1 million to a 17 year old Micker Adolfo.
