    New York Mets (37-45) @ Atlanta Braves (44-38) 6/30-7/2

    @

New York Mets @ Atlanta Braves

    Monday, 6/30 7:10 PM

    Zack Wheeler, RHP (3-8, 4.45 ERA/3.28 FIP/3.34 xFIP)vs Alex Wood, LHP (3-5, 2.60 ERA/3.14 FIP/3.03 xFIP)

Fresh off his first shutout, Wheeler lasted just two innings against the A's on Wednesday. He gave up six runs in two innings to take the loss. Wheeler, though, is far better on four days rest (2.34 ERA, 1.04 WHIP) than five (7.45 ERA, 1.86 WHIP).

Wood had a banner day in his return to the rotation on Wednesday, pitching seven shutout innings against the Astros. He has given up two earned runs or fewer in seven of his eight starts this season.

    Tuesday, 7/1 7:10 PM

    Daisuke Matsuzaka, RHP (2-2, 4.08 ERA/4.08 FIP/4.92 xFIP)vs Mike Minor, LHP (2-5, 4.50 ERA/4.30 FIP/3.47 xFIP)

Matsuzaka made one costly mistake when he hung a slider to Gregory Polanco in his last start. Polanco crushed the pitch for a three-run homer, and Dice-K picked up his second loss of the season.

On June 4, Minor had a sparkling 3.07 ERA through his first seven starts. But in the four starts since, the lefty has posted a 7.36 ERA. In his last start, Minor's command issues gave way to five runs in six innings vs. the Astros.

    Wednesday, 7/2 7:10 PM

    Jacob deGrom, RHP (1-4, 3.62 ERA/4.02 FIP/4.05 xFIP)vs Julio Teheran, RHP (7-5, 2.34 ERA/3.23 FIP/3.57 xFIP)

deGrom followed up his first career victory with another solid outing Friday night in Pittsburgh. He went 6 2/3 innings and gave up just two runs. In his last two starts, the rookie has a 1.32 ERA.

Teheran effectively negotiated a treacherous fourth inning in his last start, and held Philly to one earned run in seven innings. After allowing seven runs in a June 11 start vs. Colorado, Teheran now has a 2.05 ERA in his last 22 innings.

Keep it going Braves. Our best starters going in this series. 2/3 at least. The Mets for whatever reason plays tough here at home.

The Mets don't seem to like playing at their own home....but we got to do a better job protecting our house.

    Betancourt
    Wood

I think it's safe to say that B.J/Simba are now the #1/2...but ya, you never know.

Get to have a first look at Betancourt and his suppose elite defense. If it's anything like how Simba was hyped up to be...I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

It took Wood three innings before he settled in but he gave them 6. Now its time to score some more runs. We have had base runners. That reversed call cost us one. Alright boys 11 straight batters set down, score the man 3 so he can qualify for the W.

This is one of those games. Struggling to score runs. What we have gotten used to around here. Going to have to dent their pen b/c this is it for Wheeler.

I'll TAKE it. Couldn't have done it without the Mets being the Mets though..but tis a win.

Wood eventually settled down (in hindsight it didn't seem like Betancourt and Wood were all that familiar with each other but they got it right towards the end).

TLS with a big time hit after CJ should of GIDP. We saw the madness of B.J/Simba in the top of the order....guess you have to just hope with them. They aren't going to get bailed out by the Mets defense all the time.

Overall, the approach was solid against Wheeler. More BB's than K's against him. Just couldn't come up with the hits. I'll gladly take that approach consistently though.

    One down...take that series tomorrow.

With EOB out, possibly for a while with a damn bulging disc, should be seeing a lot Betancourt.

This hurts us big time offensively....so if we're going to get a poor offensive player regardless...might as well pick the guy with the best defense...which is Betancourt. And...that's really no reason for Betancourt to have Laird's job of starting 1/2 games a week. Just wasting him on the bench.

The Mets being the Mets again! You have to feel bad for their fans sometimes. I guess “They were who we thought they were”.

But I knew we had this game as soon as I saw their players waive the white flag in their dugout.

Damn, Gattis to DL is a big blow, but this is the best time for it, we are on a roll and facing some really mediocre competition.
