New York Mets @ Pittsburgh Pirates

New York Mets (36-42) Vs Pittsburgh Pirates(39-39)

    Ball Park

    Game 1

Matsuzaka was charged with his first loss since last September in his last start vs the Marlins. He threw 5 1/3 innings and gave up only one run while striking out four. Dating back to 2013, he is 5-1 with a 2.20 ERA in his last nine starts.
    VS

Worley, who is 1-0 with a 1.98 ERA in two starts for the Pirates this season, opens the series against the Mets. The right-hander gave up three runs in 6 2/3 innings against the Cubs in his most recent start on Saturday.
    Game 2

In his eighth start of the season, deGrom captured his elusive first career win. And he dazzled in doing so, striking out seven Marlins in seven shutout innings. He only allowed five hits after allowing 26 in his previous three starts.
    VS

Cumpton has split his time in 2014 between the Majors and Triple-A, but the right-hander has made four straight starts for the Bucs. Most recently, he beat the Cubs with seven innings of scoreless baseball.
    Game 3

Niese finally got some support in his start against the Marlins on Sunday. He gave up three runs in the sixth but was able to record his 12th quality start of the season. He hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in 19 consecutive starts.
    VS

Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle announced Wednesday that Cole, who has been on the disabled list with right shoulder fatigue, would get the call. Cole last pitched on June 3 in San Diego, when he gave up one run in 5 2/3 innings.
    Game 4

Colon shut down the A's -- the most productive offense in baseball -- for eight innings Tuesday, allowing one run on four hits. In seven starts since May 17, the right-hander has a 1.58 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 4.33 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

“Nobody wants to win more than we do,” he said. “We don’t shut this off when we go home at night, this is 24/7 with all of us here. … The fanbase is frustrated, believe me, we understand that.”

“The fans want to win now, and we do too, but the steps have to be taken, it’s not going to happen overnight,” he says. “The fanbase is not going to be happy until we get back to the playoffs and we’re trying to tell them that we know what you’re saying, we hear your frustration, we hear what you want us to do, but we have to go about it in a way that Sandy feels is the right plan. Sandy’s not looking just to win one year. He’s looking to get a nice run like we had in the 80s, when we were in first place or second each year. … I think we’re in the right direction.”

“Ninety percent I’ll spend on good times, women, and Irish whiskey. The other ten percent I’ll probably waste.”
    - Tug McGraw, on his plans for his $75,000 salary

Huge LF. PNC has not been friendly to DW, .265/.320/.345. It is the only venue in the ML in which he has had at least 30 ABs without a Hr. and DW has had 113 AB at PNC.

Don't look now, but Duda is not far off of a 30 HR/100 RBI pace, which looks like a very solid #5 hitter by the classic definition even if his defense isn't special.

Dice-K plays with fire way too much. Only real effectiveness is out of the pen long term even with his more recent stretch of decent starts.
