I hate the Yankees. I hate them for the reasons you do. I hate that weíre gonna have to suffer through this series. I hate, in advance, hearing everyone ***** and moan about the payroll.
Iím not looking forward to this series. After yesterday Iím not looking forward to laying eyes on a Pittsburgh Pirate in general.
Mercifully the Pirates havenít played the Yankees since 2008. They were 2-1, with all three games at PNC Park.
The last time they played the Yankees in New York was waaaaaaay back in 2007. They were swept. They were outscored 27 Ė 13. Your losing pitchers? Matt Capps, Paul Maholm, Shawn Chacon. Chacon had a particularly bad outing. Anyway. Enough about the great Shawn Chacon.
The Pirates will trot out an equally not good pitcher in Edinson Volquez.
Baseball Reference does a neat thing where they give pitchers a ďsimilarity scoreĒ. Itís a cool way to compare a pitcher to another pitcher in history. Edinson Volquez is most similar to another Pirate great, Tony Armas. Volquez is currently suffering from Charlie Morton Syndrome. He canít ******* get lefties out to save his life.
That seems like a recipe success with Brian McCann, Brian Roberts, Kelly Johnson, Yangervis Solarte, Mark Teixeira, Jacoby Ellsbury, Brett Gardner, and Ichiro Suzuki all left-handed options.
At least we wonít have to see that ****** Carlos Beltran.
Iím not 100% sure this is true but David Phelps is the son of legendary pastor Fred Phelps. Donít quote me on that. That may or may not be true. Phelps is a stinky reliever/starter type thing that the Pirates have seemed to struggle with so far. Heís never faced the Pirates. Heís an enigma wrapped in a mystery. He should apparently stick to relieving.
I bet Chris Stewart is going to give up ALL the info on Phelps. Thatís why the Pirates acquired him I bet!
