The dominos start to fall. Good. We need our discipline and work ethic back. Also, we need a coach that understands how to best use the pieces we have...

But let's be honest, this is just the first step in what could be an active and long summer for us.

Well press conference was just on TV... Shero only domino to fall.

"let me be clear, we have not fire Dan Bylsma at the point."

So the new GM will decide Bylsma's fate. I can't imagine he can find a real reason to keep him.

    Dude,

All I care about is: sign Oskar Sundvist! Big Swede with hands, skill and a mean streak!

    Go GUINS!

That's all I needed to hear. Been a while since we had a big bad mofo. Kevin Stevens, right?

If in the extremely minuscule chance that the new GM keeps Bylsma, I'm going to absolutely lose it. It should have been the other way around today. Shero hasn't always met all of our needs but looking at the teams that he has constantly given Bylsma, he should not have lost his job.

A name floating around for the (hopefully) upcoming head coaching vacancy is Barry Trotz. Didn't like it at first but have really warmed up to it. We all know what our forwards are capable of offensively, but getting a guy that can tap into their defensive game, yes please

    The forward version of Ulfie

His WJ tourney games I was able to see were very encouraging. Love that the guy is a RHS coming down the offwing, that he moves well in traffic, and that he probably gets the elbows slightly elevated in tight corners . You don't want a guy taking dumb penalties, but you do like to have it be so that it isn't comfortable to try to get the puck off this guy along the wall or in front. He's also got off-the-rush ability from what I can see, and according to reports, he has a very good backhand shot. Yeah, the Swedish Kevin Stevens would be real nice. Also, we need a right-handed shot to ghost around the left-wing circle and rotate in the umbrella. Everyone in the building knows the play is geared to going to Zheniya in the offwing circle. If we have another option, that would open up both circles on the PP. Mario was always the right-handed shot in the offwing circle in the good 'ole days. With the Tanger on the offpoint, too, it becomes a potentially very dynamic, dangerous PP again. Of course, I'm getting waaaaay ahead of myself, here. First, they have to lock this kid up and then he has to be able to play here. He's 6-3 and was 182 pounds at the time of the stat entries, and based on how he looked, he is pretty strong on his feet. He's probably even filled out some by now and is already very strong in his core from what I saw.

Did you read DK article? He says there's no chance he sticks. I don't know what they're doing, but the prima facie is they want the GM to be the one to give him the axe (that's my translation: the Front Office Speak is more like, 'we want our new GM to make the decision.') Yeah, sure . Honestly, it's inconceivable he'll be retained, at least as the head coach, and I'm sure if they tried to kick him sideways or downstairs, he'd leave to be a head man somewhere else. Mario is pining for younger, skilled, tougher players to complement Sid and Zheniya - and the owners have not been happy at all with Bylsma, who was on life support reportedly because of the loyalty of the guy who has already been fired. Won't be long, now... I would like to know though who is replacing these two... that kind of matters... I do not want a defensive specialist. They need a puck control guy who understands that "team defense" means having the puck, marking well, and turning the play well. The transition game, if your team can skate (and ours certainly can) and make plays (and ours certainly can) will nearly always put you in good tactical stead. We need someone who gets this.

Honestly, I think it's just ceremonial. And that way, they don't have to hear that they scapegoated him, etc. Someone said that the owners are p****d they allowed themselves to get talked into letting him hang around for one year too many.

I believe they didn't want Ray and Dan to go together, and then take the entire staff, a few guys they might want to keep. Our bench had at least 3 guys who might be able to be head coaches elsewhere. Martin, Granato, Reirden.

Another thing that was hinted at was they might just want the new GM to start on the right side of the fan base. The first move you make as GM is fire the guy fans have wanted to see gone for 2 years is a smart PR move. (At least I wanted Dan gone 2 years ago. Philly did same thing Montreal did. 2-3 zone with a forward in middle and 2 D waiting at the blueline. He couldn't figure it out against Montreal or Philly. Still couldn't against Boston and NYR. This shocked me because THE PENS DID THIS because we had Martin, and we still couldn't figure it out once they used it on us...)

I say we raid the Detroit system for gm and coach. They play a puck possession system, that uses skill and puck movement. Look at the teams draft history the players they find in the late rounds is amazing.
