Was the Michael Sam pick to the Rams a PR move by the NFL?

I mean if the NFL didn't know where he was going to be drafted, why would they send one of their best writers in Michael Silver to cover the Rams draft from the war room? Jeff fisher is also head of the NFL Competition Committee and has close ties to Roger Goodell

Look at Sam's numbers at the combine and how he did at the senior bowl. He jumped a vertical of 25 inches at the combine. That is the level of a morbidly overweight, out of shape RT. That number would be dead last amongst the QBs at the combine. His shuttle time was dead last amongst DEs, and by a substantial margin. He was second to last in the bench press. Taking the combo stats of speed, strength, explosiveness into account, and the struggle of the Senior Bowl week, he should not have been drafted.

Maybe. Hopefully not. The Rams war room coverage is kind of convenient..

Probably. The comment by Jeff Fisher, "lets go get Sam" indicated it was something out of the ordinary.

I am sure others will disagree, but that is my view.

It doesn't matter, except from a media perspective, whether he was drafted or not, he would have ended up in some camp anyway.

He still has to catch on.

Well a bad combine is a big negative, but doesn't preclude you from being drafted. Anquan Boldin ran a 4.7 which was the slowest of any WR there, and still went with the 54th pick overall because of his game tape.

Joe Haden was a small corner who ran a 4.6 and had a 35" vertical, awful for a corner. Tom Brady showed up looking... sloppy and worthless. Suggs ran a 4.85 40.

It still goes back to the game tape. Game tape showed Sam as a mid to late round pick, that's where he went.

Prior to the draft people saw him as a 6th-7th round pick or potentially going undrafted. That's the exact range he went in.

Does there have to be a new thread about Michael Sam everyday? Convert it to one thread.

I come on PSD to talk football, not soap opera. Sadly, our game now has a section on the TMZ website.

The "story lines" are so lame and they are operated by the Elite to shuv down your throat. Just like politics in the mainstream media.

I just wish we could focus on other parts of the draft, other than Michael Sam and Johnny Manziel.

I wish he could just be Michael Sam, a football player, not the first gay open player to be drafted.

Exactly if everyone wants equality like they want they wouldn't be reporting about him all the time they would treat him the same as every other player that is true equality
