    Cardinals (18-17) at Pirates (14-20) May 9-11

St. Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh Pirates
Friday, May 9, 7:05 PM EDT , PNC Park

    Michael Wacha, RHP
    42.1 IP, 2-3, 2.55 ERA,1.16 WHIP
The Cardinals have lost Wacha's last four starts, though that's mostly due to run support. Wacha has allowed eight earned runs in those 23 1/3 innings. His last start in Pittsburgh was a gem, as Wacha dominated the Bucs in a Division Series game.
    Francisco Liriano, LHP
    37.2 IP, 0-3, 4.54 ERA, 1.41 WHIP
Liriano makes his eighth start, still looking for his first win. Getting it would put him on his 16-win schedule of 2013, when he didn't get No. 1 until May 11 after starting the season on the DL with a right arm fracture.
Saturday, May 10, 7:05 PM EDT , PNC Park

    Lance Lynn, RHP
    41.0 IP, 4-1, 3.51 ERA, 1.24 WHIP
This will be Lynn's fourth try at win No. 5 and his first outing against the Pirates this season. Lynn has had trouble harnessing the movement on his pitches recently, which has led to 14 walks in his last 30 innings pitched.
    Edinson Volquez, RHP
    38.2 IP, 1-3, 4.19 ERA, 1.14 WHIP
Volquez will try to brake a skid in which he has allowed 12 runs in 11 2/3 innings in his last two starts -- after giving up a total of six in the first five. Little of his success against NL Central teams (23-10) has come against St. Louis (3-6).
Sunday, May 11, 8:05 PM EDT , PNC Park

    Shelby Miller, RHP
    39.1 IP, 4-2, 3.20 ERA, 1.47 WHIP
Miller has won four straight decisions, though he has not yet pitched into the seventh or eclipsed 100 pitches. Walks continue to pester him (23 in 39.1 innings), though he's shown an ability to evade trouble while pitching without sharp command.
    Charlie Morton, RHP
    44.1 IP, 0-4, 3.45 ERA, 1.26 WHIP
Morton tries to end a streak of 12 straight winless starts, including the last one, when he allowed only one unearned run in eight innings. He dropped both of his decisions vs. St. Louis last season, bringing his career record vs. Cards to 2-9.

When will we stop hearing excuses for this piece of crap offense? Its a small sample size..etc. And the excuses why Taveras isnt on this team yet b/c management is too cheap...oh wait its not logical until after the middle of July..then i guess its logical. What a joke.

The offense is right in the middle of the pack in the NL, just a tick better than the Brewers. So it hasn't been that bad. A very tough opening schedule (26 road games vs 12 home) and some bad luck is to blame...6-8 in one-run games and 0-3 in extra innings. Backend of the bullpen haven't been all that great either, Martinez hasn't been that good at all and Rosenthal has been pretty meh as well. I would love to watch Rosenthal pitch an inning without walking someone. They have been the worse two in the bullpen thus far, which is not what you want out of your 8th and 9th inning pitchers.

Shelby Miller the strike thrower is a much better pitcher. It is almost night and day. I am pretty convinced that if he isn't working from behind to batters that he can be a devastating pitcher. I still think he can be our 3rd starter, he just needs to re-establish his command.

It is hard to see a young cardinal pitcher with incredible talent struggle with his command, and not think back to Rick Ankiel.

It's nice to see yadier molina behind the plate with this situation, and Mike Matheny our manager, step in and talk to the guy. It makes you wonder/wish that Ankiel had matheny/molina to throw to.

I do not remember a Cards team this boring to watch. Of course they score early yet they cannot tack on any more meanwhile the rats get close and closer. And of course no hr"s again. The powerless Cards. Pathetic.
