The Mets would not speak with the media postgame Friday until Post beat writer Mike Puma left the clubhouse, the Daily News reported. Wrote Kristie Ackert and Justin Tasch:

Apparently angry about an article in the New York Post on Friday about Bartolo Colon under the headline “LARDBALL,” the players would not talk to the media until Post writer Mike Puma left the clubhouse. Puma was asked to leave and did so without incident. Within a minute, several Mets appeared in the clubhouse. The team would not comment on the incident.

The first paragraph of that game story read:

If the umpires searched Bartolo Colon’s neck for a foreign substance on Thursday, chances are they only would have found peanut butter.
If the umpires searched Bartolo Colon’s neck for a foreign substance on Thursday, chances are they only would have found peanut butter.

Other than for one abysmal afternoon in Southern California, the rotund right-hander has given the Mets exactly what they would have expected for two years and $20 million.

    Clay, what are your thoughts?
"Mr. Martin Tanner, Baritone, of Dayton, Ohio made his Town Hall debut last night. He came well prepared, but unfortunately his presentation was not up to contemporary professional standards. His voice lacks the range of tonal color necessary to make it consistently interesting. Full time consideration of another endeavor might be in order."

Personally I respect the team for doing this. These writers care less and less about the games they cover and more and more about making controversial statements.

Those are typical NY Post standards.

Good for the players. They have a nice clubhouse thing going.

Writers have no accountability for their statements. No accountability for how they vote.

They spend more creating the news and less time reporting it.

Adam Rubin once said he had to rewrite an article on the Mets because his editor said it wasn't negative enough. Writers often frame quotes in exaggerated or fabricated contexts as well.

    They're not all the same.

The NY Post is trash from beginning to end and has been trash for the last 40 years.

Youll find few better examples of this than "Lard Ball."

Fact is his weight was ripe for the lampooning upon his signing and msybe during ST. Certainly ive had my fun with it. Lets face it, pro athletes arent supposed to be fat. When they are they are subject to derision.

But making it the lead or the headline a month into the season is just wrong, inappropriate and in really bad taste.

David Wells might want to talk to you about this.
