2014 Draft: Top 5 potential 1st Rounder Bust Candidates

    1. Kelvin Benjamin
    2. Bradley Roby
    3. Anthony Barr
    4. CJ Mosely
    5. Ha-Ha Dix

I didn't look at QBs, because Teddy would be Number 1.

I almost want to take Roby off the list and I definitely want to take Mosley off. But I agree with it overall. Going to look into it more and see what my list would look like but Benjamin and Haha are definitely on my list too.

Who would you want on the list besides Roby and Mosley?

    Dennard and OBJ or Lee.

I think Dennard is the best corner in this draft.

    You think they are busts?

I am sure he wouldve said that last year too with the #13 pick overall.

Any player could be a bust, but guys that are drafted for potential vs production are more likely.

For example, OBJ would be higher bust potential than Lee, as Lee did it for 3 years, OBJ is riding on potential shown from 1 year...obviously not accoutnign for Injuries.

Kelvin Benjamin absolutely deserves to be on this list.

    What would your list be?

Just look at potential candidates that were 2nd-4th round picks who have jumped into round 1 because of a great combine. Those are your likely bust candidates.

I'd fill those two spots tournament style. One with either Bortles or Manzeil in one spot and either OBJ or Cooks in the other. Leaning towards the ladder in both cases.

I feel like this thread was made a bit too early especially since
    1. we don't know all the players that will be picked in the first round
    2. and any of these players can be busts.

As we have learned in recent drafts, nothing is a sure thing

Well, if not mistaken this is excluding QBs - so let me address them very easily, Manziel/Bortles/Bridgewater all have boom/bust potential

    1. Kelvin Benjamin
    2. Justin Gilbert
    3. Jadeveon Clowney
    4. Eric Ebron
    5. Greg Anderson

    Explanation:
    - Kelvin Benjamin: probably the one on the list who needs the least explanation. Could be a star - needs to spend a lot time at the jug machine to do so. Otherwise, he has what it takes

    - Justin Gilbert: I know many (especially Clay) will question his inclusion. To me, he is a wonderful athlete, that seemed to be a man against boys most of the time. But he depends upon raw athleticism as opposed to sound technique. This is a recipe for disaster in the NFL (See ANtonio Cromartie's first couple years, as well as Dee Milliner).

    - Jadeveon Clowney: Similar to Gilbert, you can be the most gifted player athletically, but if you dont want it more than the other guy, and you dont have the desire, then you wont be the best. I question it with him.

    - Eric Ebron: After really studying this guy, I am surprised he is "running away with it" in terms of TE. He didnt play top level competition, and still had moments of disappearing, needs to work on hands consistency, and simply is a terrible blocker. No one can deny his athleticism, and his potential, but this guy to me is not a lock to succeed at the next level.

    - Greg Anderson: I am surprised to see him outrank Jake Matthews in many expert opinions. Sure, he may have more to offer athletically, therefore a higher ceiling, but a "bust" projection is based on a player's floor. I think his floor is lower than Matthews. Anderson showed 1 solid season of top candidate potential...Matthews has 3. If someone drafts Anderson over Matthews, 5 years from now they may regret it.
