Atlanta Braves @Washington Nationals
Friday, 4/4 1:05 PM
David Hale, RHP (0-0, 0.82 ERA/0.78 FIP/1.27 xFIP) vs Jordan Zimmerman, RHP (0-0, 3.25 ERA/3.36 FIP/3.48 xFIP)
After receiving a surprise promotion to Atlanta in September, Hale allowed one earned run in the 11 innings that encompassed his only two career starts. The Princeton University grad will be making his first career road start.
Saturday, 4/5 7:05 PMThe Nationals are hoping Zimmermann (illness) can start Friday against the Braves, Mark Zuckerman of CSN Washington reports. Flu-like symptoms kept Zimmermann up all night, resulting in his scratch from Thursday's series finale against the Mets. Tanner Roark will move up to take his spot. Taylor Jordan threw a simulated game Tuesday and won't be available to pitch Friday if Zimmermann remains unavailable, so the team could be forced to turn Ross Detwiler for a spot start.
Julio Teheran, RHP (0-1, 3.00 ERA/2.80 FIP/3.71 xFIP) vs Stephen Strasburg, RHP (0-0, 6.00 ERA/2.80 FIP/1.54 xFIP)
Both of the two runs Teheran surrendered during his season debut in Milwaukee came during a rocky fourth inning. The young right-hander posted a 2.25 ERA in the final four starts he made against the Nationals last year.
Strasburg fanned 10 batters, but he surrendered four runs against the Mets in his 2014 debut on Monday. He owns a 3.68 ERA in 13 career starts against Atlanta.
Sunday, 4/6 1:35 PM
Alex Wood, LHP (1-0, 1.29 ERA/4.68 FIP/3.45 xFIP) vs Taylor Jordan, RHP (0-0, 3.66 ERA/3.49 FIP/3.80 xFIP)
Wood surrendered a home run on his first pitch of the season and then did not allow another run during his stellar seven-inning season debut in Milwaukee. He showed the same promise as when he posted a 0.90 ERA in five August starts last year.
Jordan makes his season debut vs. the same team he ended 2013 against, the Braves. Jordan notched a quality start vs. Atlanta last September, giving up two unearned runs in six innings.
