Chicago White Sox (2-1) @ Kansas City Royals (0-2)

    ----------

    Game 1

Friday, April 4th, 3:10 PM CDT
    Kauffman Stadium

    -------------

Erik Johnson, RHP vs Jeremy Guthrie, LHP

Name IP ERA K/9 BB/9 BABIP WHIP
    Johnson 0 0.00 0.00 0.00 .000 0.00
    Guthrie 0 0.00 0.00 0.00 .000 0.00

The road portion of the '14 season begins for the White Sox in Kansas City and the rookie right-hander gets the call. Johnson has just five starts of Major League experience coming last September, after making his Major League debut on Sept. 4.

The Royals' top winner last season (15-12) was picked for the home opener because he's an unflappable veteran who has started season openers for his club in four of the six previous seasons. He was also 3-2 vs. the White Sox last year.

    Game 2

Saturday, April 5th, 1:10 PM CDT
    Kauffman Stadium

    -------------

John Danks, LHP vs Bruce Chen, LHP

Name IP ERA K/9 BB/9 BABIP WHIP
    Danks 0 0.00 0.00 0.00 .000 0.00
    Chen 0 0.00 0.00 0.00 .000 0.00

Approximately 20 months removed from season-ending arthroscopic shoulder surgery in Aug., '12, Danks looked as strong as any White Sox starter during Spring Training. Danks posted a 4-14 record over 22 starts last season but has greater arm strength.

This is Chen's sixth year with the Royals and he's led them in victories three times. Last year he began in the bullpen but rejoined the rotation in mid-July and had a 0.94 ERA in his first six starts. He's 7-2 vs. the White Sox the past three years.

    Game 3

Sunday, April 6th, 1:10 PM CDT
    Kauffman Stadium

    -------------

Chris Sale, LHP vs James Shields, RHP

Name IP ERA K/9 BB/9 BABIP WHIP
    Sale 7.1 3.68 9.8 1.2 .294 0.818
    Shields 6.1 4.26 4.3 1.4 .211 0.947

Two Opening Day starts, two victories for the All-Star southpaw, as he came up on the winning end of Monday's 5-3 decision over the Twins. While Sale struggled early with his control within the strike zone, he finished with eight strikeouts.

On Opening Day at Detroit, Shields took a no-decision after the bullpen gave up his 3-1 lead in the seventh before a walk-off loss in the ninth. Last year, Shields had a 2.03 ERA in six starts against the White Sox.

I was thinking they might call up Rienzo. He had a good chance to make
the team this Spring but had a few weak appearances. I guess Cooper does
not want another pitcher who walks batters.
    Line-up for todays game:

    CF: Adam Eaton
    2B: Marcus Semien
    3B: Conor Gillaspie
    1B: Jose Abreu
    DH: Adam Dunn
    RF: Avisail Garcia
    LF: Alejandro De Aza
    SS: Alexei Ramirez
    C: Tyler Flowers

I do not like Dunn batting clean-up. It makes sense when he hits the occasional home run
but 8/10 times he is a rally killer. I saw Avisail Garcia pretty close up this week at the stadium.
(Eaton looks like Adam Ant next to him).
To me Avi Garcia looks like a tank, not Viciedo who looks like he is actually in pretty good condition.
Viciedo has run the bases pretty well and has already had two tremendously clutch hits in three at bats.
I'd put Viciedo in Right and platoon Garcia with DeAza in Left for a few games. This is heresy to many who think Garcia is the next incarnation of Miguel Cabrera but I like to play the hot hand, and right now DeAza and Viciedo are the hot hands. Also, I think Garcia, because of his enormous size, might be better playing Left over the long haul.
That was a brutal loss yesterday. Perhaps Webb is going to be our Closer faster than some of us thought he would be.
Who gets demoted when Bacon comes back? Leury Garcia or Semien?
And then the other of the two goes down when Keppinger comes back?
    Yikes.

This feel like 1 of 3 with a chance to be swept. Freaking Guthrie and Chen. I swear Bruce Chen would be out of the bigs if he didn't get to face us 4 times a year.

    .

    Quality:

"Blue Jays left-hander Mark Buehrle fell one out shy of a shutout Wednesday in a win over the Rays, allowing four hits and a walk with 11 strikeouts in 8 2/3 scoreless innings."

Other than Sale and maybe four other guys in the bigs, who else is capable of such things - and in the beginning of the season. Buehrle and Thomas are two guys that should have remained Sox forever, on principle.

Nah, rebuilding teams dont sign aging declining pitchers to long-term deals. I was fine letting him go.

    Two out of three.

The game three pitching match up is going be good one. The Danks start vs Chen is the one that troubles me.

1-0 lead on a Abreu SF fly. Johnson gets a early lead.
